Four America East Athletes To Compete In National Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Four student athletes representing four different America East Universities have qualified to compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship at College Station, Texas on Friday and Saturday, March 13-14.  

For the women, Boston University’s Andrea Walkonen is seeded eighth in the 5000-meter run (16:04.49) and Stony Brook’s Lucy Van Dalen will compete as the eighth seed in the one mile with a qualifying time of 4:36.71.

Representing the men, University at Albany’s Luke Schoen is the eighth seed in the pole vault (17-9), and Binghamton University’s Cazal Arnett is seeded ninth in the 400 meters (46.34).

The University at Albany’s men indoor track team became the first team in conference history to win the IC4A post-season championship on Sunday, edging out Big East indoor champion University of Connecticut by nine with a total of 72.5 points.  

The 4x800-meter relay team consisting of Joe Belokopitsky, Nick Santos, John Moore and Tyler Fogarty eclipsed the school record by over 10 seconds and finished second to clinch the victory on Sunday afternoon at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.

Boston University’s Whitney Ford won the long jump title at the women’s ECAC Championship, while University of Maine’s Vicki Tolton placed first in the 400-meters.  

Notable performances from the men at the IC4A include Stony Brook University’s Alex Felce, who finished just over a second behind the first-place finisher in the 1,000-meter run, earning third.  The Boston University 4x800-meter relay team broke the school record at the post-season meet.
