CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Two America East women's basketball student-athletes earned ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition as released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday, February 5. Vermont junior guard May Kotsopoulos (Waterloo, Ontario) was named to the University Division First Team, while Maine junior forward Brittany Boser (Palmer, Mass.), a repeat selection, was awarded second-team honors.
To earn a spot on the Academic All-District team, a student-athlete
must be a starter or significant contributor and have a GPA of 3.30 or
higher. Student-athletes are nominated via their school’s sports information and athletic communication
departments and SIDs from across the country vote on the teams. As a first-team selection, Kotsopoulos is now eligible for Academic All-American consideration. The Academic All-American Teams will be announced later in February.
Kotsopoulos, the 2008 America East Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete and Defensive Player of the Year, is receiving the accolade for the first time in her career. She is a business administration major with a 3.62 GPA who currently leads the league in steals (2.4 spg) and is fifth in scoring (14.4 ppg). The junior recently scored her 1,000th career point to become the second Catamount this season to do so.
Boser, a chemical engineering major with a 3.85 GPA, is a second-time selection to the All-District Academic Team. She is in the midst of her best season as a Black Bear, averaging team highs of 10.7 ppg and 5 rpg, and leading America East with an 87.5% mark from the free-throw line. Boser is also eighth in the conference in field goal percentage, 45.3%.
America East joins the MAAC and Ivy League as the only conferences to send multiple players to the District I University Division teams.
