CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- In a busy week around the conference, Binghamton University’s Erik van Ingen (Cortland, N.Y./Marathon) and Stony Brook University’s Lucy Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) earn male and female Track Performer of the Week while University at Albany’s Luke Schoen (Bohemia, N.Y./West Islip) and Boston University’s Whitney Ford (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) garner the Field Performer of the Week awards.

Van Ingen, a sophomore, met the NCAA provisional standard in the mile at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, shattering the school record in the process.  Finishing third in the event, van Ingen’s time of 4:02.39 was well under the necessary 4:04.00 and surpassed the previous Bearcat record by over 14 seconds.

Van Dalen, a sophomore distance runner, broke her third school record in as many consecutive meets at the Giegengack Invitational when she ran for a time of 4:40.26 in the one-mile.  Her time was six seconds faster than the previous record, nearly 12 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor and only 2.26 seconds shy of an automatic NCAA bid.  The performance marks her second provisional qualifying time of the year and her third ECAC qualifier.  

Schoen, a junior, earns his second weekly accolade of the season after meeting the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the pole vault for the third time this season by clearing 17-4.5 feet.  Schoen has reset the school record twice this season and leads the conference performance list in the field event.  

Ford, a junior, won the triple jump at Harvard’s Battle of Beantown this weekend while placing second in the long jump.  Both marks, a 5.81m leap in the long jump and an 11.93m score in the triple jump, were enough to qualify the Terrier for the ECAC Championship  

Albany- The Great Danes traveled to the New Balance Collegiate Invitational this weekend, competing in a field featuring 10 nationally ranked teams on the men’s side and 11 for the women.  Kamilah McShine, a senior, showed her versatility with her success in the 60-meter high hurdles (8.66), the long jump (19-1.25) and a leg in the fourth-place 4x400-yard relay (3:54.21).  Junior Luke Schoen met the NCAA provisionally qualifying mark in the pole vault for the third time this season, posting a mark of 17-4.5 feet and finishing in fourth.  Sophomore Tyler Fogarty ran the 800-meter leg in the eighth-place men’s Distance Medley Relay team that broke the school record by seven seconds with a time of 9:48.27.  Fogarty’s split time of 1:48.8 places him at the top of America East this season, and was under three seconds shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying time.

Albany's Story

Binghamton- The Bearcats sent Erik van Ingen to the New Balance Collegiate Indoor Track Invitational where he shattered the school record in the mile by over 14 seconds.  Van Ingen’s time of 4:02.39 provisionally qualified the sophomore for the NCAA Championship. The rest of the squad competed at the Syracuse Indoor Invitational with a stellar performance coming from sophomore Chris Kowalski who captured the heptathlon with 4,609 points.  Senior Justin Hidalgo earned second in the weight throw with a distance of 52-1.25 feet.  For the women, juniors Maureen Metz, Jasmine Hinson and Caitlin Wright teamed up with freshman Kaitlin Sullivan to win the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:58.86.  Sophomore Rosie Defino earned second in the pentathlon (3,030 points) while teammate Jazelle Mealing was the runner up in the triple jump (36-3 feet).

Binghamton's Story

Boston- The Terriers competed at Harvard’s Battle of Beantown this weekend with regional rivals Boston College and Northeastern.  Both the men and women finished fourth despite several strong performances.  Highlighting the men was senior Chad Steinhauser who topped the nine-runner field in the 400m dash with a time of 49.26.  Junior Kodjo Wilder finished second in the long jump with a 6.76m leap.  For the women, Andrea Walkonen continued to reign over the distance events, earning first in the 13-runner field for the 3,000m run with an NCAA provisionally qualifying time of 9:32.77 placing her over 20 seconds ahead of her closest competitor.  Junior Whitney Ford qualified for the ECAC Championship in two individual events, winning the triple jump (11.93m) and finishing second in the long jump (5.81m).

Boston's Story

Hartford- Hartford competed at the Wesleyan Cardinal Invitational on Saturday, and although the meet was not team scored, the Hawks combined to win a season-high nine events and a total of 38 top-five finishes.  Rookie Nigel Nimoh earned three top five finishes in the field events while winning the 55-meter hurdles.  Nimoh’s time of 8.34 in the hurdles broke the previous school record by nine seconds, while his marks in the long jump (6.32m), the triple jump (13.03m) and the high jump (1.76m) were enough for second, third and fourth place, respectively.  Senior Elizabeth Foster finished first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:20.70, finishing nearly 47 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and breaking the previous school record.  Freshman Kristalena Lamore earned second in the long jump with a distance of 5.02m.  

Hartford's Story

Maine- At the Maine Open, the Black Bears combined for 16 first-place finishes with the men finishing first and the women second.  Sophomore James Berry earned multiple individual victories, winning the pole vault with a school record mark of 15-5.00 feet and the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.11 seconds.  Freshman Riley Masters ran an impressive one mile, crossing first in 4:18.55.  For the women, rookie Shaniqua Burgess led the pack in the 200-meter dash (25.78) and went on to earn second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.24.  Junior Tanya Simard excelled in the field events, earning first in the triple jump and second in the long jump with marks of 36-1.50 feet and 16-11.50 feet, respectively.


UMBC- The Retrievers competed at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational this weekend and were highlighted by several season-best performances.  Junior Adrian Arthur qualified for the IC4A Championship with his season-best time of 22.24 in the 200-meter dash and teammate Josh Okoniewski, a senior, followed suit posting his best in the 800-meter run (1:57.09).  For the women, senior Emily Saltsman’s time of 2:24.07 in the 800-meter run was a season best, as was junior Sara Parkinson’s time in the 1-mile run (5:02.28).

UMBC's Story

New Hampshire- The Wildcats competed at the second Dartmouth College Quad Meet on Saturday, earning second place behind host Dartmouth, but posting ahead of Vermont and Quinnipiac University.  Sophomore Camille Quarles won a pair of individual events in the triple jump (38-11.50 feet) and the long jump (17-4.75) while Rita Ciambra earned first in the pole vault with a mark of 12-6.  For the men, six different athletes, as well as the 4x400 meter relay team earned first-place finishes.  Sophomore Brice Paey won the shot put with a throw of 53-0.25, while senior Pat Casey earned first in the high jump when he cleared 6-7.  Sophomore Gabe Dano led the pack in the 200 meters with a time of 22.07 and seniors Nick Decrescenzo and Marc Ouellette  finished 1-2 in the 3,000 meters with times of 8:34.10 and 8:35.97, respectively.  

New Hampshire's Story

Stony Brook- At the Giegengack Invitational on Saturday the Seawolves had sophomore Lucy Van Dalen break a school record for the third consecutive meet, finishing the mile in 4:40.26.  Van Dalen’s time, which placed her 12 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, provisionally-qualified her for the NCAA Championships and was only 2.26 seconds from an automatic bid.  Teammate Laura Huet, a junior, earned fourth in the 3,000-meter run, crossing in a season-best time of 9:46.61.  For the men, senior Merlon Pinnock finished first in the 500-meter run in a time of 1:05.43 while teammates Daire Bermingham and Alex Felce earned third (4:08.98) and eighth (4:12.41) in the mile, respectively.  Bermingham’s time was enough to break a Stony Brook record.

Stony Brook's Story

Vermont- The Catamounts traveled to Dartmouth this weekend where both men and women finished third behind Dartmouth and New Hampshire, but ahead of Quinnipiac.  Junior Aaron Campbell was a standout for the men, breaking his own school record in the 60 meters and posting the ?Cats’ first ever sub-seven seconds time in the event.  The impressive time of 6.86 shaved .22 seconds off his previous record and qualified him for the IC4A Championship.  Junior Aly Millet won her second straight race by crossing first in the 1,000 meters with an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:54.30.  Freshman Bethany Karter-O’Brien was second in the shot put and third in the weight throw with marks of 12.75m and 15.13m, respectively.
