Women's Basketball: In-Season Tournaments Continue On Tuesday

Every gameday throughout the 2009-10 season, America East will provide a women's basketball update that features notes on that day's matchups as well as recaps of the previous day's action. Tuesday, December 29
UMBC at Fordham (Fordham Holiday Classic)    1 p.m.

  • The Retrievers and Rams meet for just the third time ever, and first time since 1995. The series is split at 1-1.
  • Senior Carlee Cassidy, the school's all-time three-point field-goal leader, was held without a trey in the previous two games before making up for lost time with a career-high 7 last time out.

Binghamton vs. East Carolina (Fordham Holiday Classic)    3 p.m.

  • The Bearcats have had better luck on the road so far this season, reaching an even 3-3 mark on away trips, while going 0-5 inside the Events Center.
  • Sophomore Viive Rebane, the team's fourth-leading scorer with 6.1 ppg, notched her season high in points with 12 last time out.

Boston University at Saint Joseph's (Saint Joseph's Hawk Classic)    4 p.m.

  • The Terriers are the fourth America East team the Hawks have faced so far this season. The league is 2-1 against St. Joe's with UNH and Hartford picking up the wins.
  • Rookie Mo Moran is averaging 15.6 ppg in the month of December including outings of 18, 20, and 21 points in the last three games.

Vermont vs. Dayton (Blue Sky Classic)    5 p.m.

  • The Catamounts open play in Dartmouth's Blue Sky Classic, their second in-season tournament of the year. UVM won its first in-season tournament at NC State to begin the season.
  • Senior Courtnay Pilypaitis is fourth all-time in conference history with 211 career three-pointers, and fifth in assists with 526 to her credit.

Maine at UTSA (UTSA New Year's Classic)    8 p.m.

  • The Black Bears meet the Road Runners for the first time in program history down in San Antonio. Maine will face Stephen F. Austin tomorrow in the second round.
  • In its last six contests, Maine has had five different players lead the team in scoring (Wellington, Wheeler, Baker, Bratishko, Williams).

Binghamton 59, at Fordham 52 (Fordham Holiday Classic)

  • Four Binghamton starters reached double-figure points, while two notched double-doubles, led by sophomore Viive Rebane's 12 points and 13 boards.
  • The Bearcats outrebounded the hosts, 46-36, and collected 15 boards on the offensive glass.


UMBC 66, East Carolina 58 (Fordham Holiday Classic)

  • Senior Carlee Cassidy scored a season-high 27 points and hit a career-high seven three-pointers on 11 attempts. She added four boards, two assists and two steals.
  • Sophomore Michelle Kurowski registered her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.


UNC Wilmington 85, Stony Brook 51 (Terrapin Classic)   

  • Nine Stony Brook player registered at least a point, while 12 saw action in the game.
  • Senior Joia Daniels netted a team-high 10 points, while junior Kirsten Jeter posted eight points, five steals and four rebounds.


Boston University 68, South Carolina 67 (Saint Joseph's Hawk Classic)

  • The Terriers knocked off just the program's second-ever SEC opponent in the first all-time meeting with the Gamecocks.
  • Freshman Mo Moran scored a team-high 21 points, and added seven assists, while three others joined her in double-figured points.


New Hampshire 42, at Canisius 40

  • Senior Candace Williams recorded team highs of 12 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. She added two steals to her stat line.
  • The Wildcats held the host Griffs to 26.7% field-goal shooting and just 19% from beyond the arc. Four blocks and eight steals added to the defensive effort.
