Volleyball Trio Capture Week 10 Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- A pair of Great Danes captured two weekly volleyball accolades for the second straight week as the duo helped Albany stay undefeated in conference play at 7-0. Junior outside hitter Teresa Coppiellie (Canton, Mich./Salem) garnered America East Player of the Week, while junior setter Brooke Stanley (Hendersonville, N.C./West Henderson) once again took home Setter of the Week. UMBC freshman outside hitter Naomi Bush (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport) rounded out the week 10 awards with her fourth Rookie of the Week award of the season.

Coppiellie recorded a double-double with a match-high 11 kills and 10 digs to lead Albany to a 3-0 sweep of New Hampshire on Friday night. For the week which featured just the one match, the junior outside hitter averaged 3.67 kills, 3.33 digs, 1.00 aces and 4.67 points per set while hitting at a .370 clip. Coppiellie recorded only one error and smacked three service aces. Her play helped move the Great Danes to 7-0 in league play and extend the team's unbeaten streak to 13 matches.

Stanley extended her grasp on this weekly honor to a fifth straight week after quarterbacking Albany to a 3-0 sweep of New Hampshire in the Great Danes' only match of the week. The victory kept Albany undefeated in conference play with a 7-0 record. Stanley recorded a match-high 30 assists and added nine digs, two kills and two service aces, along with a .333 hitting percentage. The junior setter averaged 10.00 assists and 3.00 digs per set while assisting the Great Danes to a team hitting percentage of .349 for the match. Stanley is currently among the league leaders in three statistical categories, and leads the conference with 11.00 assists per set in America East matches.

Bush led the Retrievers to a 3-0 win over Hartford on Friday night in UMBC's only match of the week. The freshman hit nine kills with no errors on 14 swings for an outstanding .643 hitting percentage, leading the conference for the week in the latter category. Bush also added two blocks and an assist, and improved her season average to 2.51 kills per set which ranks third for the Retrievers.

Player of the Week Teresa Coppiellie recorded a double-double with a match-high 11 kills and 10 digs to lead UAlbany (17-8 overall record, 7-0 America East record) to a 3-0 sweep of New Hampshire in America East Conference volleyball action on Friday evening at University Gymnasium... The Great Danes and Wildcats faced off in the second annual "Dig Pink" match, which raised money and awareness for the Side-Out Foundation, which supports breast cancer research... UAlbany won the match with scores of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-17... Coppiellie  also recorded a .370 hitting percentage and three service aces... Setter Brooke Stanley quarterbacked UAlbany, keeping the Great Danes undefeated in conference play... Stanley recorded a match-high 30 assists and added nine digs, two kills and two service aces, along with a .333 hitting percentage... UAlbany will return to action on Friday, visiting UMBC at 7 p.m.

Binghamton (11-13, 3-5 AE) fell to fourth place in the America East after losing a 3-0 match at home to New Hampshire on Sunday ... Earlier in the week, BU also lost 3-2 at Colgate ... The Bearcats have now lost four straight matches and five of their last six ... Junior hitter Michelle McDonough (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) led Binghamton with 4.00 kills per set on the week ... McDonough also now has 992 career kills in just 89 matches ... Junior hitter Anna Lejina (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary/Univ. of Latvia) chipped in with 3.12 kills per set ... McDonough has 333 kills on the season and Lejina has 330 ... Senior middle blocker Dawn Lammert (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) led BU with 0.75 blocks per set on the week ... Senior libero Brianna Strong (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) led the Bearcats with 3.50 digs per set ...  Binghamton will play two critical road conference matches this weekend, at Stony Brook and at UMBC as the race for playoff berths intensifies.

The Hartford volleyball team (7-18, 0-7 AE) finished a two-match week with a three set loss to UMBC (25-10, 25-11, 25-16) on Friday night and a four-set loss to Stony Brook (13-25, 16-25, 25-22, 10-25) on Sunday afternoon ... Against the Retrievers, Hartford was led by senior Erin Macro (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) who finished with eight kills ... Against the Seawolves, Macro again led the Hawks, finishing with 10 kills, the only double-digit kills effort of the week for Hartford ... Sophomore Michelle Cordell (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) led Hartford in hitting against the Seawolves, finishing with eight kills and two errors in 19 total swings for a .316 hitting percentage ... The Hawks will play one match this week, welcoming the New Hampshire Wildcats to West Hartford for the final home match of the season for the Hawks ... Hartford and New Hampshire are scheduled for a 6 p.m. start on Friday, November 6.

UMBC (13-9, 5-2 AE) played just one match defeating Hartford at the RAC, 3-0, on Friday night... With the win, the Retrievers' magic number is one to clinch a spot in the America East Championship for the third time in four seasons... Freshman Naomi Bush (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport) led the Retrievers Friday night, hitting nine kills with no errors on 14 swings for an outstanding .643 hitting percentage, while also adding two blocks... Sophomore Alyssa Lang (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) hit seven kills with only one error to hit .375, while fellow sophomore Sarah Joy (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada/Brookfield) added two service aces and five total blocks... The Retrievers return to action this weekend when they play host to Albany on Friday at 7 p.m.... The following night, UMBC will have its senior night against Binghamton at 6 p.m.. UMBC's four seniors, Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty), Kira Giles (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada/Glenlawn), Pam Jarrett (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Pius X) and Helen Smith (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) will all be honored before the match. 

The University of New Hampshire (10-14, 2-5 AE) split in a pair of America East road matches, falling to Albany in straight sets on Friday night before sweeping past Binghamton on Sunday... Senior Kirsten Bates (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) sits on the doorstep of a "grand accomplishment" just 11 kills away from 1,000 for her career... Bates had 14 kills, 18 digs, two blocks and hit at a .121 clip over the weekend... Bates and fellow senior Lindsay Fogarty (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley) both rank in the top 10 in kills in America East... Fogarty led the Wildcats with 19 kills, 10 digs and a pair of blocks... Senior Kate Uitti (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney) paced the Wildcat offense with 48 assists in two matches including 22 in a win at Binghamton... UNH returns to action on Friday night at Hartford. Match time is 6 p.m. in West Hartford, Conn.

Stony Brook (12-11, 4-3 AE) swept its season series with Hartford with a 3-1 (25-13, 25-16, 22-25, 25-10) victory on Sunday... Senior Harmonie Calinda (Huntington, N.Y.) led the Seawolves with 16 kills while adding ten digs and three aces. Junior Ashley Headen (Alexandria, Va.) was also in double-digits for kills with ten while blocking five Hartford attacks...  Stony Brook controlled the majority of the match as it never trailed in either the first or the fourth sets... In the fourth set, SBU committed just one error on its way to a .524 hitting percentage... Senior Lindsey Gordon (N. Patchogue, N.Y.) continues to swing well, hitting an even .500 for the match with nine kills while chipping in four blocks... Junior Jeanette Gibbs (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) paced the defense with 13 digs... The Seawolves recorded double-digit blocks for the fifth time this season with ten.
