Women's Basketball: Hartford Downs #19 Louisville Tuesday Night

W. Hartford, Conn.-- University of Hartford downed #19/23 Louisville, 62-50, at Chase Family Arena Tuesday night in front of over 2,000 fans. It is the fifth straight year the Hawks have upset a nationally-ranked opponent.

Senior forward Erica Beverly, an America East preseason all-conference team selection, tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds for her second straight double-double to open the season.

Senior center Diana Delva, another preseason pick, and sophomore guard Ilicia Mathis each matched Beverly's offensive output of 14 points.

Louisville outscored Hartford in the paint, 30-20, but the Hawks recorded more second-chance points, 18-8, and points off 25 Cardinal turnovers, 24-11. The hosts led by twelve points at the half, 32-20, and were able to equal Louisville's 30 points in the second stanza to secure the win.

The Hawks stunned sixth-ranked Duke early last season on a neutral court, and upset #23 Michigan State in West Hartford during the 2007-08 season.

Entering the game, Hartford was receiving one vote in the weekly coaches' poll.
