Van Ingen First Bearcat Runner to Qualify for Cross Country NCAA Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -
Binghamton junior Erik van Ingen (Marathon, N.Y./Marathon), who claimed this year's America East championship title, ran to a seventh-place finish on Saturday at the NCAA Regionals to become the first Bearcat runner to qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships. America East female champion Maine sophomore Corey Conner
(Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) also qualified for the NCAA championship race after receiving an at large bid on Sunday.

Van Ingen finished the 10K Franklin Park course in 31:17 and is the first America East runner to qualify for the NCAA Championship race since 2003. He led the Bearcats to a program-best eighth-place finish out of 36 teams.

Conner placed ninth in a 243 runner field, crossing the finish line of the 6K course in 22:29. Conner led her team to a 10th-place finish out of 35 teams.

While the Bearcats claimed the top finish by an America East men's squad, the Stony Brook women raced to the top finish by an America East women's squad, placing third overall. Juniors Holly and Lucy van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand/Wanganui Collegiate) led the Seawolves, crossing the finish line in 14th in 22:43 and 15th in 22:44, respectively.

On November 23, van Ingen and Conner will compete in the NCAA Championships hosted by Indiana State.The men's race will start at 12:08 p.m. while the women's will start at 12:58 p.m. Free live video streaming will be available at NCAA.com.
