Men's Basketball: Five Teams Open Season Friday

Every gameday throughout the 2009-10 season, America East will provide a men's basketball update that features notes on that day's matchups as well as recaps of the previous day's action. Six of the league's nine teams are in action on Friday, with five of them beginning their 2009-10 season. Below are the day's match-ups

Friday, November 13
Morgan State at Albany, 7 p.m.

The Great Danes face their second straight NCAA opponent from a year ago when they play  MEAC champion Black Bears... The game is one of seven the Great Danes will play against teams that reached last year's tourney.

Stony Brook at Maryland-Eastern Shore, 7 p.m.

The Seawolves and Shore Hawks meet in a season opener for the second straight season... Tommy Brenton led Stony Brook to a 60-44 victory to open last year with eight points and 16 rebounds in his collegiate debut... SBU, led by preseason all-league choice Muhammad El-Amin (15.2 ppg) is picked 4th in the preseason poll after going 16-14 last season.

Vermont at Loyola (Md.), 7 p.m.
The Catamounts, who shared the AE regular-season crown with Binghamton last season, open up against the Greyhounds, who they down 64-62 in Burlington last season... Marqus Blakely, the two-time America East Player and Defensive Player of the Year had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Catamounts, who were picked second in this year's preseason poll.

Boston U. at Iona, 7:30 p.m
The Terriers, the preseason choice to win America East, and Gaels meet for the second straight season in a return game from last season's BracketBusters pool... John Holland led BU to a 63-57 win with 24 points in last year's meeting.. Holland (18.1 ppg) and Corey Lowe (17.2), both preseason all-league selections, are the top returning scoring tandem in the conference.

Maine at Fordham, 8 p.m.
The Black Bears hope to match last season's 3-0 start which was their best beginning to a season since 1971-72... Junior college transfers Jerrell Boswell and Terrence Mitchell combined for 37 points in 41 minutes in an exhibition victory over Lavalle College on Nov. 1.

Hartford vs. Quinnipiac, 9:30 p.m. (Connecticut 6 Tournament)
The Hawks and Bobcats meet in the finale of the first-ever Connecticut 6 Tournament also featuring Central Connecticut, Fairfield, Sacred Heart and Yale... Hartford welcomes back Joe Zeglinski, a preseason all-conference selection who missed all but 10 games last season after suffering an ankle injury.
