Women's Basketball: Season Openers Are Finally Here!

Every gameday throughout the 2009-10 season, America East will provide a women's basketball update that features notes on that day's matchups as well as recaps of the previous day's action. Eight of the league's nine teams begin their regular season games Friday. Below are the day's match-ups:

Friday, November 13
Boston U. at Kentucky    11 a.m.

Forward Maggie McKemie, one of two starters for the Terriers this year, is a graduate of Christian Academy of Louisville and returning to her home state for this match-up.

Vermont vs. Western Michigan    6 p.m.
Picked to defend their America East Championship title, the Catamounts begin their season at the Sheraton Raleigh Wolfpack Invitational hosted by NC State.

Albany at Fordham    6 p.m.
The Great Danes won three of their final six games last season, including a first-round match-up with Maine in the America East Championship.

Central Connecticut at Maine    7 p.m.
Maine, who will be trying to avenge last year's 65-57 loss, continually draws some of the biggest crowds of any women's program in the league, averaging 1,475 fans at home last season.

#14/18 Virginia at UMBC    7 p.m.
The Retrievers return 94% of their scoring from last season, including the league's reigning scoring champion, Carlee Cassidy (20.4 ppg).

St. Bonaventure at Binghamton    7 p.m.

Binghamton, receiving its highest preseason pick (3rd) since joining the conference, dropped last year's season opener to the Bonnies, 51-66.

St. Joseph's (Pa.) at New Hampshire    7 p.m.

The Wildcats did not lose a single letterwinner from last season and return four seniors, including second-team all-conference forward Candace Williams.

Princeton at Stony Brook    7 p.m.

The Seawolves return eight players and welcome five freshmen to the mix. Junior forward Kristen Jeter and junior guard Misha Horsey will lead the way, having each played every game since arriving on campus.
