Boston University's men's soccer squad earned the sixth and final berth to the America East Championship and New Hampshire locked up its first-ever outright regular-season title in action Wednesday night. Other than that, seeds remain at stake heading into the final conference games of the regular season on Saturday.
The Terriers (8-6-2, 2-4-0, 6 pts. America East), who are guaranteed the No. 6 seed and will play in one quarterfinal contest on Nov. 7, downed Vermont, 2-1, behind two goals from sophomore Stephen Knox. The Catamounts (1-10-5, 1-4-2, 5) were eliminated from postseason consideration with the loss.
The Wildcats (9-5-2, 6-0-1, 19) wrapped up their first regular-season crown since 1994 and first outright title ever with a 2-1 win over Binghamton on a pair of scores from sophomore Dylan George. UNH will receive a bye in the quarterfinal round and host a semifinal contest on Nov. 11.
The Bearcats (8-7-1, 3-3-0, 9) sit in a fourth-place tie with UMBC (12-4-0, 3-3-0, 9), which fell at Hartford, 3-0, on Wednesday. The two teams face each other on Saturday with the winner able to secure at least one home game in the tournament.
The Hawks (7-6-2, 4-1-1, 13) got unassisted goals from Patrick Boucher, Vernon Perinchief and Ivan Guarin to move into sole possession of second place. Hartford can secure the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye with a win or tie against Stony Brook on Saturday. The Seawolves (4-9-3, 3-2-1, 10), who were idle Thursday, can earn the No. 2 slot with a win.
