Preseason Basketball Predictions Announced At Wednesday's Tip-Off Event In Hartford

HARTFORD, Conn.-- The Boston University men and University of Vermont women were selected by head coaches to capture the 2010 America East Basketball Championships, as announced at the league's Tip-Off Luncheon at the Connecticut State Capitol in Hartford on Wednesday, October 28. The preseason all-conference teams were also announced at the event.

The Terriers received all eight possible first-place votes (coaches were not allowed to vote for their team) and 64 points, followed by University of Vermont, which received the remaining first-place vote and 56 points. University at Albany barely edged Stony Brook University for third place with 43 points, while the Seawolves came in one point behind with 42, just ahead of University of New Hampshire’s 39. University of Hartford and UMBC tied for sixth with 28 points apiece, while University of Maine (14 points) and Binghamton University (12) rounded out the poll.

University of Vermont chose to win the women's title by the slimmest of margins. With five first-place votes and 61 points, the Catamounts beat out the Hawks, who garnered the remaining four first-place votes and 60 points. Binghamton followed in third-place with 45 votes, while Boston University and University of New Hampshire tied for fourth-place with 38 points each. Just three points behind was UMBC in sixth-place, followed by Stony Brook University (23 points), University of Maine (13) and University at Albany (11).
