CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Three America East field hockey players were selected as 2009 Division Senior All-Stars by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as announced on Wednesday. University at Albany's Nicole Savage (Wilkes-Barre,
Pa./James M. Coughlin), Boston University's Nikki Lloyd (Kent, England/Bromley) and University of New Hampshire's Meg Shea (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) will represent the league at the Senior All-Star Game.
Savage helped lead the Great Danes to the program's first America East Championship crown last year, and has been a large contributor in 18th-ranked Albany's success this year tied atop the league standings with a 3-0 America East mark. The forward is tied for the team lead in points with 17 on six goals and five assists. Savage ranks eighth in the league in goals per game (0.43 gpg) and is ninth in points per game (1.12 ppg).
Lloyd, a transfer from Virginia Commonwealth, made an immediate impact for the Terriers in her first season last year, leading the team in points (16) and goals (7), while adding two assists. This year, the forward has tallied five goals and three assists for the Terriers, who are tied for first place in the conference standings.
Shea, named the America East Player of the Week three times this season, leads America East in points (44) and goals (19) and has also chipped in six assists. The forward for the Wildcats has five multi-goal efforts this season and has tallied a point in all 15 of UNH's games. The Wildcats are 9-6 overall and are competing for a spot in the America East Championship.
The 2009 NFHCA Division I Senior All-Star Game will be played on Saturday, November 21 at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. as part of the Final Four festivities. Game time is 5:30 pm. and will include play against the U.S. Women's National Team.
