UAlbany Field Hockey Remains Unbeaten in Conference, Rises to 18th in Nation

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the third straight week, University at Albany's field hockey team has garnered a national ranking. The Great Danes maintain their national dominance in penalty corners per game and have risen to second nationally in saves per game.

UAlbany's field hockey team (9-3 overall, 2-0 America East) rose to 18th in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I national rankings after remaining undefeated in conference play. The Great Danes recorded a 1-0 win over conference rival Maine (10-4, 1-1 AE) in their only game this past week. UAlbany will next host Vermont (1-12, 0-2 AE) on Saturday before taking on crosstown-rival Siena on Sunday. Maine, Boston U. (5-8, 2-0 AE) and New Hampshire (8-5, 1-1 AE) also received votes, garnering 31, 16 and 11 votes, respectively. Maine split a pair of games last weekend; first losing to #18 UAlbany, 1-0, before rebounding with an 8-2 victory over Brown. The Black Bears next travel to Fairfield on Saturday. The Terriers remain unbeaten in conference play earning their second conference win on Saturday over Fairfield (4-8, 0-2 AE). With the 5-0 win over the Stags, Boston U. has shutout both of its America East opponents this season, outscoring them 7-0. The Terriers return to action on Wednesday against Harvard before hosting New Hampshire. The Wildcats won three games on the road last week, posting a shutout win over Dartmouth, 4-0, before defeating conference rival Vermont, 3-1. New Hampshire then played Michigan on a neutral field, capturing the game, 3-2, in double overtime.

UMBC's men's soccer team (10-2-0 overall, 1-2-0 America East) received 31 votes for the NSCAA national poll and a regional ranking of eighth. UMBC split two conference games this past week defeating Stony Brook (2-9-2, 1-2-0 AE), 2-0, before falling to New Hampshire (5-5-1, 2-0-0 AE), 2-0. The win over Stony Brook gave the Retrievers a 10-win season for the first time since 2003. UMBC next faces Longwood on Saturday. Boston U. (7-4-2, 1-2-0 AE) is down from fourth in the NSCAA regional poll to seventh. The Terriers suffered their first losing streak of the season dropping a pair of games this past week to New Hampshire, 2-1, and Hartford (5-5-2, 2-0-1 AE), 3-1. Boston U. next plays at Binghamton on Friday in the team's second Fox Soccer Channel broadcast of the season. While UMBC and Boston U. have dropped in the regional rankings, both New Hampshire and Hartford climbed into the regional poll this week, claiming the ninth and 10th spots, respectively. The Wildcats opened conference play with a win on Wednesday over then-#15 Boston, 2-1. New Hampshire next traveled to then-#25 UMBC where the team earned its second win over a nationally-ranked opponent this season, defeating the Retrievers, 2-0. The Hawks remain unbeaten in conference play after tying Vermont, 2-2, and then defeating Boston U., 3-1. Hartford returns to action against New Hampshire tonight.

The Boston U. women's soccer team (9-4-2 overall, 5-0-0 America East) remains solid at number nine in the regional rankings after extending its winning streak to seven games. The Terriers posted two shutout victories last week, first beating Vermont (1-9-3, 1-2-2 AE), 4-0, before defeating Albany (6-7-1, 1-2-1 AE), 3-0. With the two wins, Boston U. extends its conference unbeaten streak to 21 straight games. The Terriers next compete against Stony Brook (5-7-2, 4-0-1 AE) on Thursday.

Stony Brook's women's cross country team received one vote in the USTFCCCA national rankings and the team remained at fourth in the regional poll. Boston U., Vermont and Maine also maintained their regional rankings coming in ninth, 13th and 15th. The Terrier women placed 16th on Saturday at the New England Championships. Boston U. next competes at the Central Connecticut State mini meet on October 24. The Catamounts also competed at the New England Championships capturing an eighth-place team finish. Two Vermont runners received All-New England honors for their top-15 individual finishes. Vermont returns to action on Friday at Saint Michael's College. Maine claimed a 10th-place team finish on Saturday led by sophomore Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex Regional), who captured the individual title. Maine next competes at the America East Championship hosted by Vermont.

The America East men's cross country squads also maintained their regional rankings from last week with Binghamton coming in ninth followed by Boston U. (14th) and New Hampshire (15th). The Terrier men claimed a 15th-place team finish at the New England Championships led by junior Eric Ashe (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson), who captured fourth. Boston U. next competes at the Central Connecticut State mini meet. The Wildcat men were the top America East finisher at the New England Championships capturing fourth place. New Hampshire returns to action on October 31 at the America East Championship meet.
