CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Boston University’s David Proctor (Rochdale, England/Hulme) and the University at Albany’s Fey Adaramola (Bronx, N.Y./Trevor/Central Florida) earned this week’s male and female Track Performer of the Week awards, while Albany’s Nasim Siddeeq (New Hampton, N.Y./Goshen Central/Robert Morris) and Jenn Gurrant (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) earned the weekly Field Performer accolades.
Proctor, a senior, provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in the mile by posting an impressive time of 4:00.26 at the Terrier Invitational on Saturday. The race remained close until the end, but ultimately Proctor was edged out of first place by .07 seconds.
Adaramola, a junior, broke two school records and met three ECAC Championship qualifying standards at the 17th annual Great Dane Classic on Friday. She snapped a 10-year-old school record in the 200-meter dash by finishing in 24.80 seconds, and went on to finish fourth among 60 athletes in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.14 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team Adaramola ran a leg in set a school record with a 3:51.44 time and finished second out of 40 squads.
Siddeeq, a transfer from Robert Morris, provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship by winning the triple jump with a leap of 51 feet, 7.25 inches. The impressive jump shattered the past school record by over eight inches and placed him almost three feet ahead of the rest of the field.
Gurrant, a senior, won the triple jump event with a mark of 42 feet, 3.25 inches, making her the first female in America East to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championship in the 2008-09 season.
Albany- Albany hosted the seventh annual Great Dane Classic at the New York City Armory Track and Field Center on Friday. Nasim Siddeeq, a junior, and Jenn Gurrant, a senior, each won the triple jump, posting NCAA Championship provisionally qualifying leaps of 51-7.25 and 42-3.25, respectively. Junior Valete Graham led the men’s squad in the long jump, winning the event with a school record leap of 24 feet-3.75 inches, making him one of three Great Danes to qualify for the IC4A Championship in the event. Senior Joe Greene would qualify for the same post-season championship, placing third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.91 seconds. For the women, Kadine Johnson won the weight throw event with a school-record breaking distance of 55 feet-1 inch. Junior Fey Adaramola broke the school record in the 200-meter dash, posting an ECAC Championship qualifying time of 24.80 seconds. Adaramola would also qualify in the 55-meter dash (7.14) and as a part of the second-place 4x400-meter relay team (3:51.44).
Albany's Story
Binghamton- The Bearcats traveled to America East rival Albany to compete in the Great Dane Indoor Track Classic on Friday, where the men’s distance medley relay team of junior Chris Gaube, sophomore Eric van Ingen, and freshmen Michael Schieck and Jesse McCormick earned first place with an IC4A-qualifying time of 10:06. Schieck went on to place third in the 1,000-meter run, setting a new school record with his time of 2:29.14. Senior Joanel Lopez broke his own school record, launching a 16.18m mark in the shot put. For the women, Junior Caitlyn Wright and sophomore Shannon Finnegan finished seventh in the 800-meter (2:19.67) and the mile (5:18), respectively. The men finished fifth overall out of 29 teams, and the women, 26th out of 30.
Binghamton's Story
Boston- The Terriers hosted the Terrier Invitational this week where several athletes earned post-season qualifying marks. Senior Edwina Clark finished second in the long jump to Tahari James, who was competing unattached after exhausting her indoor track eligibility, in a field of 38 competitors. Clark posted a 5.91m jump, half of a meter further than the third place competitor. Junior Sarah Mosser qualified with a time of 2:49.59 in the 1,000-meter run, which was good enough for second, while teammate Shelby Walton earned sixth in the 200m dash with her qualifying time of 24.88. For the men, senior David Proctor stole the show, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships with an impressive time of 4:00.26 in the mile-run, only seven-hundredths shy of a first-place finish. Senior Chadd Steinhauser qualified for the IC4A championship in the 500-meter dash with an 11th-place time of 1:04.96.
Boston's Story
Hartford- The Hawks were inactive this week, but will compete at Reebok Indoor Games on Friday, January 30.
Maine- The Black Bears used a week of training to prepare for the Reebok Indoor Games in Boston on Friday, January 30 at noon.
UMBC- Five Retrievers competed at the 17th Annual Lehigh John Covert Classic on Saturday at Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. Junior Dominic Devaud finished third in the men’s heptathlon with an IC4A qualifying score of 4,905. Devaud won two events, the 60-meter hurdles (8.51) and the pole vault (4.61m) in the multi-event competition. For the women, senior Toni Boyd place third in the pentathlon, scoring 2,815. Boyd won the shot put event, hitting a mark of 12.70m while earning silver in the high jump and long jump.
UMBC's Story
New Hampshire- Bobby Edgerton, a senior, was the only Wildcat from the men’s squad to compete at the Terrier Classic on Saturday, and snapped an 18-year-old school record by more than a second in the 1,000-meters with a time of 2:23.82. The time was enough for first out of 46 competitors. On Sunday, senior Jeff Kaste won the weight throw in a quad-meet at the University of Rhode Island with a toss of 62 feet, 3.75 inches. The Wildcat men (78) went on to edge URI (70), Central Connecticut State University (24) and Holy Cross (13). For the women, junior Ashlee Lathrop broke the school record she set last month with a toss of 55 feet, 3.75 inches in the weight throw at the Terrier Classic, placing her sixth in a field of 36. Sophomore Erica Jesseman completed the 5,000 meters in a New England Championship-qualifying time of 17:39.78.
New Hampshire's Story
Stony Brook- The Seawolves did not compete this week, but will return to action on Thursday, January 29 at the Metropolitan Championships in New York, N.Y.
Vermont- The Catamounts improved to 2-0 in home meets this year as they swept a tri-meet against McGill and Middlebury on Friday night. The women recorded 85 points, outscoring Middlebury (50) and McGill (37). The men tallied 79.50 points which was enough to surpass Middlebury (45) and McGill (34.50). Shane Snyder, a junior transfer for the men, had an exciting debut as he ran for a first place tie in the 3,000-meter run, recording a time of 8:45.40. Freshman Chris Lemieux recorded a new personal best in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m. Aly Millet, a junior, won the 800-meters with a time of 2:17.94, crossing nearly nine seconds ahead of the nearest competitor, while freshman Bethany Karter-O’Brien won both the weight throw and show put with throws of 49 feet, 4.25 inches and 40 feet, .5inches, respectively.
