Three-Way Tie at Top
As the conference season nears February and the midway point of the conference slate, Binghamton, Boston University and Vermont sit tied atop the America East standings at 5-2. The teams have combined to run off 11 straight wins as the Catamounts have bounced back from an 0-2 start to win five straight. Similarly, the Terriers started off slow with two losses in their first three games only to rebound with four straight wins. On the flip side, Binghamton started 3-0 before dropping consecutive games at Albany and home against Boston U. The Bearcats, led by the league's leading scorer D.J. Rivera (19.8 ppg) have bounced back with back-to-back wins. The common theme with all three of these teams is efficient offense. They rank 1-2-3 in points per game and field goal percentage during league play (See page 11 for complete rankings).
Forty Minutes Nowhere Near Enough
In one of the most memorable games in America East lore, Boston University edged Stony Brook 99-97 in quadruple overtime on Monday. The Terriers, who got 33 points from Corey Lowe, led throughout, growing their lead to as much as 11 in the second half, but the Seawolves fought back and sent the game to overtime on a 3-pointer by Muhammad El-Amin as time expired. Lowe, who had 21 in overtime alone, provided the most exciting moment of the extra frame. The all-conference guard slashed through the lane and flipped the ball up and in with 2 seconds left in the second session to extend the game, which his team eventually won. John Holland played all 60 minutes and provided 29 points. Chris Martin led SBU with 26 points, 17 of them coming in overtime.
The game was just the second America East contest to go four overtimes and it happened 13 years ago to the day, January 19, 1996 when New Hampshire downed Maine 106-103 in four extra sessions.

Freshman Bryan Dougher matched his career mark with 21 points in Stony Brook's home win against Hartford. Another rookie, Boston University's Jake O'Brien poured in 24 points to help lead his team back from 18 points down in the first half to beat Maine. In the final game of the day, Tim Ambrose eclipsed his previous best with 26 points to snap Albany's two-game slide with a win over UMBC.
