Three Things I Can’t Live Without:
1. Family 2. Friends 3. Basketball
Q. Why I Chose Stony Brook University:
A- I choose Stony Brook University because of the coaching staff and academic reputation. The coaches who recruited me are great people and I am happy that I chose to be surrounded by them. They are great leaders and I knew I wanted to play for them after meeting them. I am also happy that I can earn a degree from Stony Brook while playing basketball here. This degree will get me far.
Q. Favorite class and why:
A- My favorite class at Stony Brook so far was His 261 with Professor Lynn Rubin-Turchiano. She was very enthusiastic and made learning easy. She explained the topics in ways that made it easy to remember and relate to. She was my first professor in college and I am taking a class with her again this semester because I have realized that not all professors in a college setting care about their students the way she does and not everyone has such a passion for teaching the way she does.
Q. One thing I have learned at Stony Brook that I will carry with me for the rest of my life is:
A- The one thing I have learned at Stony Brook that I will carry with me for the rest of my life is you never quit, whether it is on the court or off. In life you work hard and strive for success, and doing that every day on the court and in the classroom will prepare me for life.
Q. My Dream Job, other than the NBA/WNBA, is:
A- My dream job, other than the NBA, is to be a monster truck driver.
Q. The person, other than my parents, who has had the most influence on me is, and why:
A- The thing that has had the most influence on me other than my parents is the male emperor penguin. If I ever think I am having a bad day or our schedule is hard, I just think of what he has to do every winter and then my life doesn’t seem so hard.
Q. The best thing about being a Stony Brook Seawolf is:
A- The best thing about being a Stony Brook Seawolf is that all of the student-athletes support each other. Teams support each other and attend their games, matches, and meets. It’s like we have our own extended family.
Q. Most memorable moment as an athlete:
A- My most memorable moment as an athlete was winning the national championship a year after we won the state championship. I also remember going 19 for 20 from the foul line in the state championship.
Q. What I did this week as a student (classes, tests, projects, study hall):
A- We haven’t started classes yet so I’ve been enjoying some relaxation time. I’ve been able to watch tv and catch up on what’s going on in the world.
Q. What I did this week as an athlete (practice, games):
A- We had a tough week of games but also had scouting reports, weights, treatment, and practices too. We had a road trip to Dartmouth, got home really late and then started the next day with lifting and film in order to get ready for Vermont. We played Vermont at home but couldn’t get the W. Our next game against Boston went into quadruple overtime but we lost. I’ve never been in a game that has lasted that long and we were frustrated that after 60 minutes of basketball, we didn’t come away with the win.
Q. Based upon my experiences growing up, my advice for young kids about school and athletics is:
A- Based upon my experiences growing up, my advice for young kids about school and athletics is that the better your grades are, the more doors open up for a bright future. If you don’t pay attention to academics in high school, your options for college will be limited.
Q. Why I am looking forward to the America East Basketball Championship:
A- I am looking forward to the America East Basketball Championship because it’s been our team goal since the first day to win the championship and go to the NCAA tournament. We work hard every day to get one step closer to achieving that goal.
