CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Stony Brook's Trine Allenberg (Roberts, Wis./Woodbury) and Boston University's Jessica Luscinski (Bedford, N.H./Trinity) each scored game-winning goals for their team last week and have earned America East women's soccer Player and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively. The award winners were announced on Monday, Sept. 8.
Allenberg, a senior forward, scored her second game winner of the young season in the Seawolves' 1-0 win over Manhattan on Thursday. She also added an assist Colleen McKenna’s goal in fifth minute against Fordham on Sunday that gave Stony Brook an early 1-0 advantage in an eventual 2-1 win. Allenberg is tied for the league lead with two game-winning scores and tied for third in points (5) and goals (2) through five games this season.
In her first career start, Luscinski netted the game-winning goal in the Terriers’ upset victory at 19th-ranked Connecticut. Luscinski notched her first career goal in the 10th minutes as she finished a cross from junior Emily Pallotta. The win was Boston U’s first over a ranked opponent since the 2006 season.
Overall, it was a strong week for America East teams, which went 7-6-3 overall and now boast a .444 overall winning percentage (17-22-6) for the season... Boston University's upset over Connecticut the first win for an America East team over a ranked opponent in non-conference action since the Terriers knocked off third-ranked Santa Clara on Sept. 15, 2006. America East teams also posted strong efforts against regionally ranked teams as Stony Brook downed Fordham (8th in NSCAA Mid-Atlantic rankings) 2-1, while Hartford, which is ranked 10th in the most recent NSCAA Northeast rankings, tied Georgetown, the third-ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic region, 0-0 (2OT).

Albany (2-3-0, 0-0-0 America East) won its home opener over Youngstown State, 2-1, on Sept. 5 and then took a 4-1 loss at Brown on Sept. 7 ... Ashley Tirabassi (Cambridge, Ontario/Monsignor Doyle) and 2007 America East Rookie of the Year Teresa Boring (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) scored the goals against Youngstown State ... Boring has netted three of the Great Danes’ four goals against the Penguins in the two meetings between the schools ... Diana Barrera (Wheaton, Md./Albert Einstein), who now has eight career assists after setting up Boring’s game-winning goal versus Youngstown State, needs just one more helper to match and two more to break Dee Marf?’s school record of nine career assists set back in 1983 ... Rebecca Lee (Selkirk, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) leads all UAlbany freshmen in scoring with two goals and an assist for five points ... Head coach Mary-Frances Monroe has started one senior, two juniors and eight underclassmen every match, which includes four newcomers on defense as well as a freshman goalkeeper ... The Great Danes will travel to crosstown-rival Siena on Sept. 9 at 4 p.m. before competing in the Niagara Tournament against the host Purple Eagles on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. and Drexel at 11 a.m. on Sept. 14 ... After UAlbany beat Youngstown State, 2-1 on Sept. 5, Siena defeated the Penguins by the same score two days later.
Binghamton (3-1-0, 0-0-0 America East) won its only game during the week - a 2-0 triumph at Holy Cross. It was the team's second straight shutout and the third win in four games equals the program's win total from the entire 2007 season... Junior keeper Jen McEachron (Hoosick Falls, N.Y./Hoosick Falls) needed to make just four saves for her second shutout. McEachron lowered her goals against average to 0.49 ... Senior Charlotte Foster (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford-Sutherland) notched her second goal of the season and junior midfielder Amanda Casares (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) added her first in the second half...
The Bearcats haven't been scored on the first half this season... After playing three of its first four games on the road, Binghamton returns home for four of its next five, beginning with a Friday tilt against Iona.
Boston University (2-3-0, 0-0-0 America East) upset No. 19 Connecticut on Sunday afternoon as freshman Jessica Luscinski (Bedford, N.H./Trinity) netted the game-winning goal ten minutes into the contest. Junior Emily Pallotta (Andover, Mass./Andover) sent a cross from the far left side into the box, where a diving Luscinski connected to slide the ball past the Huskies’ keeper for her first collegiate goal. The defense took over from there, anchored by junior Casey Brown (Natick, Mass./Natick) and Lina Cords (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown), did not give UConn any dangerous chances. Sophomore Janie Reilly (Coral Springs, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) made three saves in net to earn her second shutout of the season. The victory marked the Terriers’ first win over a ranked opponent since the 2006 season when they defeated No. 22 Maine and upset No. 3 Santa Clara. To open the week, BU dropped a 2-1 decision to Princeton despite a goal from junior Farrell McClernon (West Chester, Pa./Merion Mercy) in the 70th minute of the match.
Hartford (2-2-2, 0-0-0 America East) finished with a loss and a tie at the George Mason Tournament over the weekend. The Hawks dropped a 1-0 decision to the host Patriots in overtime to open the tournament on Friday despite a career-high 10 saves by freshman goalkeeper Lauren Brodeur (Wilbraham, MA/Wilbraham & Monson Acad.)... Hartford shook off the loss to post a scoreless tie against Georgetown on Sunday. Brodeur finished with eight saves, including a pair in overtime... Brodeur and senior Lauren Aldred (Manchester, England/Oklahoma Baptist Univ.) were named to the all-tournament team... The Hawks have been held without a goal for the past three games... Hartford will next host Providence on Thursday, September 11 at 7 p.m. at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.
Maine (2-0-3, 0-0-0 America East) remained undefeated with a tie against Temple and overtime win over Iona...Maine has now played in four straight over time games, going 1-0-3 in the four games...Veronique Fleury (Montreal, Quebec/College Saint Sacrement) notched her first goal of the season in overtime to defeat Iona...Freshman Carolyne Nellis (Quebec City, Quebec) notched the game-winning assist for Maine...Nellis also registered three shots for Maine in the game...Senior goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips (Nepean, Ontario/Merivale)notched her 30th career shutout against Iona...The shutout also increased her school record over the next closest Maine goalie to seven...Against Temple, Kelsey Wilson (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) and Christine LaBelle (Nepean, Ontario/Mother Teresa) each notched their first goals of the season against Temple...Labelle’s goal tied the game 15 minutes into the second half...Maine outshot Temple...Maine had seven shots on goal to Temple’s three...Maine returns to action on Saturday at home to battle Bryant at 1 p.m.
UMBC (1-4-0, 0-0-0 America East) won its only game last week, defeating Sacred Heart at home, 1-0, on Sept. 5... Sophomore back Morgan Warrington (Magnolia, Del./St. Thomas Moore Prep) scored the game-winner in the 74th minute... The goal was the Retrievers’ first of the season and propelled the team to its first victory of 2008... Senior goalie Christine Bacinski (Hampstead, Md./Mount de Sales) made six saves in the game and recorded her third career shutout but first since Sept. 9, 2005... It was UMBC’s first shutout since Sept. 12, 2007, and first solo shutout since Oct. 9, 2005... The Retrievers took nine shots against Sacred Heart, a season high... UMBC continues its four-game home stand next weekend, hosting Richmond on Sept. 12 and N.C. State on Sept. 14.
New Hampshire (1-3-1, 0-0-0 America East) went 0-1-1 last week, playing to a 2-2 draw at UMass, and dropping a 2-1, double-overtime heartbreaker against Rhode Island in its home opener ... senior forward Sara Hourihan (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) did everything she could to help UNH steal a tie at UMass, tallying a goal and an assist for three points ... after setting up the goal that tied the match at one, Hourihan buried her first score of the year with 7:05 remaining in regulation to knot the game again ... senior forward Julie O’Shaughnessy (Manchester, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) notched her first goal of the year to tie the match at one ... junior forward Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) assisted on both goals, giving her four points on the season and the early team-lead in that category ... senior goalkeeper Nikki Golding (Milton, Mass./Milton) played just as big of a role against UMass, making a career-high 10 saves, and holding UMass scoreless over the final 78:43 of the match ... freshman midfielder Carole LeBlanc (Grand-Digue, New Brunswick/Brewster Academy) scored the first goal of her collegiate career versus Rhode Island, giving UNH a 1-0 lead that would stand until the 87th minute ... senior midfielder Caitlin Whelan (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth), who led last year’s team with seven assists, collected her first helper of 2008 on LeBlanc’s goal ... junior goalkeeper Ally Yost (Langhorne, Pa.) gave up more than one goal for the first time this season, surrendering two to URI ... Yost made seven saves in the contest, including four huge diving stops in the first overtime session ... the Wildcats return to action Wednesday, Sep. 10 at 7:30 p.m. when they play host to Harvard under the lights at Bremner Field.

Vermont (1-4-1, 0-0-0 America East) dropped both games at the Hoosier Classic hosted by Indiana University ... The Catamounts, who were making their first-ever trip to the Hoosier state, fell 5-0 to the hosts and then suffered a 7-1 loss to Wisconsin ... Junior goalkeeper Eliza Bradley (Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley News) suffered an injury in the Indiana game and was relieved by sophomore Jess Rosene (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) in the second half ... Rosene made her first career start against the Badgers and made a career-high 11 saves ... Junior Carson Laderoute (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) scored the lone goal for UVM, it was her first of the year ... Sophomore Caitlin McGowan (Rye, N.Y./Rye) earned her first career points with an assist on Laderoute’s goal ... Vermont returns to action on Friday (Sept. 12) when it hosts Siena and travels to Temple on Sunday (Sept. 14).
