CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Vermont’s
Doug Maisey and Boston University’s
Erin Lagasse each were the overall winners in their respective races, and have
earned America East Performer of the Week honors for the week ending September
7.
Maisey, a junior, kicked off his
season with a first-place finish at the McGill University Open Cross Country
Meet on Saturday, only the second overall win of his career. Maisey set a strong pace, completing the 6k course
in 19:13, and helped lead his team to a first-place overall win in the season
opener.
Lagasse, a junior, took first place
at her team’s season opener at the Dartmouth Invitational and helped propel her
team to a hard fought third-place finish where just three points separated the
second from the fourth place team.
Lagasse completed the 5k course in 19:53.8 and was the only runner to
record a sub-20-minute finish.
Albany- The Great Danes faced stiff competition on Saturday,
September 13 when they headed to Princeton for the Old
Nassau run and competed against teams representing the Big East, the Ivy
league, the Colonial Athletic Association, and the Atlantic 10 Conference. The women took 10th place out of
13 teams in the race, three of which competed in the 2007 NCAA Cross Country
Championship last year, while the men finished sixth out of 10 teams. For the women, senior Laura Cummings
completed the 6,000 meter course in 23:12,
setting the fastest pace for America East last week, and earning her a 24th
place finish. R.J. Sniffen, the top
finisher for the Albany men, crossed
the line at 26:50, just 90 seconds behind the course leader, securing his spot
in 30th. The freshmen men
continued to shine as they recorded seven of the top eight finishing spots for Albany.
Albany's Story
Binghamton- After being idle last week, both the Binghamton
men and women’s cross country teams were ranked in the top 15 in the Northeast
according to the preseason poll released yesterday by the U.S. Track &
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The women are seeded in 13th in
the region, while the men were ranked 14th. Both squads return to competition on
Saturday, September 20, at the Buffalo Stampede Invitational in Beaver
Island Park, N.Y.
Boston U.-
Boston University
kicked off its season at the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 13,
where the women took home a third place finish and the men, fourth. Performer of the week junior Erin Lagasse set
the pace for the women, finishing the 5k in 19:53 and earning a first place
overall finish. Junior Eric Ashe
finished second overall in the men’s race, running the 8k in 26:14. Ashe was followed by freshman Peter Gilmore
who made his collegiate debut with a spot in 13th.

Hartford- The Hawks were off last week and return to the
course on Saturday, September, 20 at the Ted Owen Cross Country Invitational in New Britain, Conn.
Maine- The Black Bears joined the Terriers at the
Dartmouth Invitational this past weekend and started the season with a fifth-place
finish for both the men and the women out of seven participating teams. Corey Conner, a freshman for the women, ran
for sixth place with a time of 20:47.610 in the 5K, finishing first for Maine
in her first appearance. The men were
also led by a new addition to the team when freshman Riley Masters set the pace
and took home 15th in the 8k with his time of 26:45.70. The women’s team has been seeded 15th
in the Northeast according to the USTFCCCA polls released yesterday.
Maine's Story
UMBC- The Retrievers traveled to Annapolis,
Md. on Saturday where the men placed eighth
of 14 in the Navy Invitational and the women finished 14 of 16 in
the Salty Dog Invitational. Junior
Suzanne Gabriel and sophomore Paul Zwama continued to lead their respective
teams as they both crossed first for the second week in a row. Gabriel posted a 24:33.07 in the 5k
guaranteeing her a 14th-place finish, while Zwama ran for a time of
25:23.50 to earn eighth in the 8k.
UMBC's Story
Stony Brook-
According to the USTFCCCA Preseason Polls released yesterday, the Stony Brook
women are ranked 26th nationally and third in the Northeast region
while the men were regionally ranked in 10th. Both teams will compete at the Iona Meet of
Champions on Saturday, September 20, at Van Cortlandt Park, N.Y.
UNH- Both Wildcat cross
country teams have found themselves seeded 12th regionally according
to the USTFCCA Preseason poll released yesterday. The women will head to New
Britain, Conn. for the CCSU
Invitational on Saturday, September 20 while the men continue to train before
their meet in Orono, Maine
on Friday, September 26.
UVM- Vermont opened its season at the McGill University Open
Cross Country Meet in Montreal, Quebec
on Saturday with a first place finish for the men, and third for the women. Performer of the week junior Doug Maisey, who
picked up his second first place finish of his career with a time of 19:13, had support from the other four
Catamount runners, all of which finished in the Top 10. For the women, last year’s MVP junior Aly
Millet posted a 14:57 in the 4k,
taking home sixth place, and carrying the team to a third place finish.
