CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Binghamton University's Dani Raske
(Riverdale, N.J./Pascack) has been named America East women's soccer Player of
the Week after recording a hat trick in the Bearcats lone game of the
week. Albany's Kendra Harrell-Vigil (Avondale, Ariz./Westview) earned Rookie of the Week honors
for the week ending September 14.
Raske, a sophomore back,
scored all three goals in the Bearcats 3-0 win over Iona on Saturday.
The hat trick, which is the second in America East this season, is the
first in Binghamton’s Division I history. Raske also anchored a defense
that recorded its third straight shutout and has allowed just two goals
in five games this season
Harrell-Vigil, a freshman forward,
earned all-tournament honors at the Niagara Falls Classic over the
weekend after tallying her first career goal against host Niagara on
Friday. Harrell-Vigil has started all eight games for the Great Danes
thus far this season.

Albany
(2-6-0, 0-0-0 America East) lost all three of its matches this past
week ... After taking a 4-0 loss at crosstown-rival Siena on Sept. 9, the
Great Danes were defeated by Niagara, 4-2 on Sept. 12 and Drexel by a
score of 4-1 on Sept. 14 at the Niagara Falls Classic ... Junior Ashley
Tirabassi (Cambridge, Ontario/Monsignor Doyle) and Kendra Harrell-Vigil
(Avondale, Ariz./Westview) were named to the all-tournament team ...
Sophomore Teresa Boring (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) and
Tirabassi each found the back of the net for the 11th time in their
careers at the Niagara Falls Classic ... Both players stand in a four-way
tie for fifth on the program’s all-time goal scoring list with Amy
Preece and Kerry Young ... Tirabassi leads the America East Conference in
scoring with nine points on four goals and one assist ... The Great Danes
will play three matches at Varsity Field this week ... The squad faces
Massachusetts on Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. and then hosts the Governor’s Cup
over the weekend ... UAlbany will play Army on Sept. 19 at 3 p.m. and
Sacred Heart in the second round at 1 p.m. on Sept. 21 ... Siena will
also compete in the tournament.
Binghamton (4-1-0, 0-0-0
America East) extended its win streak and shutout streak to three with
a convincing 3-0 victory over Iona on Thursday. The victory,
Binghamton’s fourth in five games, gives the team its best start to a
season since the ?05 team began 4-1-1. The Bearcats have already
exceeded their win total from the entire ?07 season and still haven’t
been scored on in the first half this fall... Sophomore defender Dani
Raske (Riverdale, N.J./Pascack) recorded a hat trick with goals in the
25th minute, 38th minute and 48th minute. They were her first
collegiate goals. In addition, Raske anchored a back line that posted
the team’s third shutout in a row... Junior midfielder Amanda Casares
(Rahway, N.J./Rahway) notched two assists to bump her season total to
four... Junior keeper Jen McEachron (Hoosick Falls, N.Y./Hoosick Falls)
was called on to make just one save and saw her goals against average
dip to 0.39... Binghamton has three more non-conference games before
hosting New Hampshire in the America East opener on Sept. 28.
Boston University
(4-3-0, 0-0-0 America East), which was receiving votes in last week’s
NSCAA national poll, improved to 4-3 overall on the season with two
wins last week to extend its winning streak to three games... The
Terriers opened the week with a 1-0 triumph over the Big Ten’s
Wisconsin, as junior Emily Pallotta (Andover, Mass./Andover) netted the
game’s lone goal and sophomore Jamie Reilly (Coral Springs, Fla./St.
Thomas Aquinas) made six saves in net to earn the shutout... BU followed
it up with a 1-0 victory against cross-town rival Northeastern with
sophomore Lina Cords (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) providing the
heroics with a goal in the 59th minute... Reilly earned her fourth
shutout of the season with three saves ? including a crucial diving
stop with five minutes remaining... Reilly has now played 271:06 minutes
of scoreless action... BU will take part in the Minnesota Gold Classic,
where it will face Milwaukee on Friday, Sept. 19, at 5:30 p.m. and
Minnesota on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m.
Hartford (2-3-2
overall) endured a 2-1 setback to Providence College in its only action
of the week. The Hawks led the Friars 1-0 late in the game but gave up
two goals in the final five minutes, the game-winning tally coming with
only 17 seconds remaining in regulation. Senior Kacey Busque
(Manchester, Conn./Manchester) scored her first goal of the season in
the defeat... Hartford will enjoy a 10-day layoff before hosting
Colgate University on Sunday, September 21 at 2 p.m.
Maine
(2-0-4, 0-0-0 America East) remained undefeated with a tie against
Bryant...Senior captain Christine LaBelle (Nepean, Ontario) had the
game-tying goal...LaBelle had a great finish as she semi-scissor kicked
the ball past the Bryant keeper from the top of the box...LaBelle
received a great low cross about two feet off the ground from Veronique
Fleury (Montreal, Quebec/College Saint Sacrement)...It is the second
consecutive game Fleury has factored in the game-deciding goal, having
scored the game ?winning goal in overtime against Iona last week...The
Black Bears had one goal called back for offsides...Maine keeper Jasmine
Phillips (Nepean, Ontario/Merivale) made four saves...Maine played all
five of its newcomers in the game...Maine has now played in five
consecutive overtime games...The last time Maine was undefeated six games
into the season was the 2006 season when the Black Bears went 8-0-1 en
route to winning 14 games and advanced to the America East championship
game...The Black Bears return to action on Thursday when they battle
Dartmouth at 3 p.m. in Orono and play at Cornell on Sunday at 1 p.m.
UMBC
(1-5-0, 0-0-0 America East) dropped two home games last week, falling
to Richmond, 2-0, on Sept. 12, and to North Carolina State, 2-1, on
Sept. 14... Freshman goalie Mo Van Vlerah (Boyds, Md./Northwest) recorded
a career-high eight saves against the Spiders... Sophomore midfielder
Morgan Warrington (Magnolia, Del./St. Thomas Moore Prep) scored her
second goal of the season in the 65th minute against the Wolfpack...
Warrington has scored both of UMBC’s goals in 2008... Junior midfielder
JoAnne Jackson (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) was credited with the assist,
the first helper by a Retriever this season... Senior goalie Christine
Bacinski (Hampstead, Md./Mount de Sales) registered a career-high 11
saves in the game... After getting out-shot by N.C. State, 11-3, before
halftime, UMBC turned up the pressure in the second half and finished
with a season-high 11 shots... The Retrievers conclude their home stand
on Wednesday, Sept. 17, when they host Drexel... UMBC then hits the road
to face Elon on Friday, Sept. 19.
New Hampshire (1-5-1,
0-0-0 America East) went 0-2-0 last week, getting shut out at home by
Harvard, 1-0, and falling on the road to Northeastern, 3-1 ... senior
forward Sara Hourihan (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) scored her second
goal of the year to cut UNH’s deficit against Northeastern to one in
the 61st minute ... junior forward Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham,
Mass./Framingham) assisted on the goal, marking the second time this
season the duo have hooked up for a tally ... Kaplan’s third assist of
the season ties her for the team-lead in points with Hourihan (5) ...
senior goalkeeper Nikki Golding (Milton, Mass./Milton) tied her career
high by making 10 saves in the match ... Golding has set or tied her
career high in saves in all three of her starts this season ... junior
goalkeeper Ally Yost (Langhorne, Pa.) tied her career high with eight

#13 Boston College, 5-0, on Friday ... Junior goalkeeper Marisa Viola
made seven saves ... Viola stopped a penalty kick in the opening minutes
of the game ... The contest against BC was just the Seawolves second
against an ACC opponent ... SBU has not tied a game this season through
six games after tying five contests last season ... The Seawolves entered
last week ranked 13th in the Northeast Region by Soccer Buzz Magazine ...
Stony Brook will take on Bryant on Tuesday for the first time in school
history ... Tuesday’s game will start a stretch in which Stony Brook will
play three out of four games at home ... SBU will face off against
Hofstra on Thursday for the first time since Oct. 14, 2003 when the
Pride defeated the Seawolves, 1-0 ... Stony Brook will take on Columbia
on Sunday after the teams played to a scoreless tie last year ...
