Binghamton's Quiller, Boston U's Hudak Tabbed Scholar-Athletes of the Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. ? Binghamton University’s Rory Quiller (West Point, N.Y.) and Boston University’s Sarah Hudak (Harleysville, Pa.) have been named the 2007-08 America East Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, respectively. Quiller was chosen the scholar-athlete for indoor track & field, while Hudak took home the honor in field hockey earlier in the year.

Quiller, just the second male to win the award in consecutive years since it was instituted in 1996, became the second America East athlete to win a national championship. Quiller won the pole vault competition at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship with a height of 18 1/2 and also garnered All-America accolades for the third straight season. In February, Quiller won his sixth America East pole vault title (four indoor, two outdoor) at the league’s Indoor Track & Field Championship. He concluded his career as a two-time NCAA Northeast Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year and a five-time NCAA qualifier. He was also named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) Academic All-America second team in 2006-07, has been an America East All-Academic selection and has been on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Quiller graduated with a 3.66 grade-point average in psychology and is pursuing a graduate degree in business administration.

Hudak, the 2008 America East Woman of the Year, earned a Masters of Science degree in occupational therapy with a 3.64 GPA. She earned NFHCA All-America honors this past season and was chosen the 2007 America East Defensive Player of the Year. Hudak, a two-time all-conference selection, led the Terriers to their third straight conference title and a victory over two-time defending Big Ten champion Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Championship. She was named to the conference’s All-Academic squad in 2006 and 2007, the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad.
