UMBC, the America East Men's Lacrosse champion, will face third-seeded Virginia in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday, May 11 at 5 p.m. on ESPNU. The 16-team field and pairings were announced during the selection show Sunday night on ESPNU.

UMBC (12-3) earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by overcoming a nine-goal deficit and stunning Albany, 14-13, in the conference championship game on Saturday. The Retrievers, who are ranked seventh in the USILA Coaches' Poll, have won a program-record 11 straight contests. UMBC, which is making its third straight appearance in the NCAA championship, advanced to the quarterfinals last season after upsetting Maryland in the first round.

Virginia (12-3) is ranked No. 3 in the USILA Poll. The Cavaliers were the runner-up in the ACC after falling to top-ranked Duke in the title game.
