Albany Men and Boston U Women Claim the Title In Outdoor Championships

2008 Outdoor Track and Field All-Conference Teams 

ORONO, Maine -- For the fourth-straight season, the University at Albany has taken home the men's team title, while Boston University claimed it on the women's side at the 2008 America East Outdoor Track & Field Championship at University of Maine on Sunday afternoon.

The Great Danes finished first with 196 points, while second-place went to New Hampshire (162). Binghamton (119) and Boston University (115.5) also topped the 100-point plateau in third and fourth, respectively. UMBC (93.5), Maine (64), Stony Brook (55), Vermont (39) and Hartford (13) round out the nine-team field.

New Hampshire, led by head coach Jim Boulanger, garnered Men's Coaching Staff of the Year honors. The Men's Most Outstanding Rookie went to Binghamton's Cazal Arnett who won the 400-meter dash in an America East record time of 47.04. He anchored the winning 4x400 meter relay in the most exciting event of the day to outrun Albany by only .03 seconds with a time of 3:15.45. He also placed third in the 200-meter event (21.90). The Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer was New Hampshire's Jordan Horwitz who won the 10,000-meters in an America East record time of 30:41.69. He also placed second in the 5,000-meter event (14:32.54). Horwitz also earned the Coaches Award for Most Points Compiled with 18 points. The Men's Most OUtstanding Field Performer went to Albany's Luke Schoen with a first place finish in the pole vault event breaking an America East record with a height of 5.26 meters.

On the women's side, the Terriers scored 193 points, outdistancing second-place New Hampshire (119.5). Albany finished third with 116.5 points, followed by UMBC (96) and Maine (84.5) in fourth and fifth, respectively. Binghamton (80.5), Vermont (65), Stony Brook (60) and Hartford (41) round out the nine-team field.

Boston University, led by head coach Robyne Johnson garnered Women's Coaching Staff of the Year honors. The Women's Most Outstanding Rookie went to Stony Brook's Holly VanDalen after a win in the 1500-meter event in a time of 4:28.23. The Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer was Maine's Allyson Howatt after winning the 200-meter event (24.17), the 100-meter event (11.96), and anchoring the winning 4x400 relay (3:50.19). The Women's Most OUtstanding Field Performer was UMBC's Ashley Fauntleroy after being victorious in the hammer throw (50.22 meters), shot put (14.41 meters), and discus throw (44.64 meters). The Coaches Award for Most Points Compiled went to Boston's Tahari James totaling 34 points after a first place finish in both the long jump (6.18 meters) and triple jump (13.01 meters), a second place in the 100-meter event (12.02), and a third place finish in the 200-meter event (24.85).
