BALTIMORE - UMBC and Albany, the top two seeds in the America East Men's Lacrosse Championship, will meet in the league title game for the third consecutive season after each posted victories in semifinal action on Thursday at UMBC Stadium.
The title game is on Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. The championship tilt will be video streamed by Pack Network and be available for free in the America East Zone at AmericaEast.com free of charge. Watch Live
The
league champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA
Men's Lacrosse Championship, which begins with quarterfinal action on
Saturday, May 10.
The Retrievers needed overtime to upend fourth-seeded Binghamton, 6-5. UMBC, which trailed 5-2 early in the fourth quarter ,erased a three-goal deficit in the final period to force extra time. Junior attack Ryan Smith scored 53 seconds into overtime to help UMBC extend its school-record win streak to 10 games.
The Great Danes (8-7) scored four unanswered goals early in the second half en route to a 12-9 win over third-seeded Stony Brook. Corey Small, who missed the previous three games due to injury, scored five times and added an assist. Freshman Brian Caufield, a first-team all-league selection, dished out six assists.
UMBC and Albany have split the two previous championship games. The Great Danes won the title on their home field last season, while the Retrievers captured the 2006 crown.
