CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--The America East SAAC participated in a community outreach program during its April 11-12, 2008 meeting in Boston, Mass. The SAAC partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middlesex County on Saturday, April 12 at the Cambridge branch. America East athletes volunteered at the Cambridge Boys and Girls Club helping staff facilitate their first annual Score for Kids event. Athletes provided more than basketball pointers, using their athleticism and goals of higher education to motivate club members to stay in school and work toward a goal. Volunteers helped members score points during a hot shot competition and added to the mural of diversity which runs behind the clubs bleachers. The America East Conference student-athletes even decorated the center with posters that provided positive and encouraging phrases and served them lunch. Having the students volunteer brought the Boys and Girls Club one step closer to its mission of enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Boys & Girls Club of Middlesex County is a “Place to go and A Place to Grow.”
