CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Many America East women's and men's outdoor track and field teams competed at the 132nd Annual ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium on May 16-18.
University at Albany's Mike McCadney led the way with a victory in the triple jump. He set a school record with his championship effort of 51-feet, 1.75-inches to claim UAlbany's first triple jump crown in IC4A competition. The Great Danes finished fifth in the men's IC4A team standings with 39 points. The UAlbany women were led by a third-place finish by Jenn Gurrant in the triple jump with a distance of 41-feet, 7.75-inches. The Lady Danes finished in a tie for 24th place with 11 points among the ECAC women's competition.
Freshman Cazal Arnett placed third in the men's 400-meter event in a time of 47.00, and junior Kim Williams was fifth in the women's 200-meter event (24.50), highlighting the Binghamton track and field teams' performances at the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships. Junior Justin Halleck placed 10th in the men's hammer with a distance of 188-feet, 5-inches.
The Boston University women's outdoor track and field team came in 13th at the ECAC Championship over the weekend, headlined by top-10 finishes by senior Tahari James and sophomore Whitney Ford in both the long jump and triple jump. James qualified for NCAA Regionals in both the long jump (20-feet, 3.25-inches) and triple jump (41-feet, 5.75-inches) while finishing second and fifth respectively. Ford took third in the long jump with a 20-feet, 2.50-inches distance and eighth in the triple jump (40-feet, 4.75-inches). Sophomore Eric Ashe took third in the 3000m steeplechase (8:59.38) as the men's team placed 30th at the IC4A Championships.
The University of Maine men's and women's track teams had several solid performances at the ECAC/IC4A Championships. Highlighting the Black Bears were Vicki Tolton finishing 13th in the 400-meter dash (55.31), Rebecca Even coming in 28th in the hammer throw (139-feet, 11-inches) and the women's 4x400-meter relay team placing 22nd (3:51.32). On the men's side, Dan Poirier came in ninth in the javelin throw (195-feet, 4-inches) and Miles Bartlett came in 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:10.42).
The UMBC women's 4x100-meter relay of Tierra Gregory, Tawana Wilson, Jennifer Kalkstein, and Britney Foreman set a new school record as they finished 13th overall in a time of 47.41. Alex Hyland finished 12th in the 5,000-meter event in 17:23.39. Ashley Fauntleroy finished 17th in the shot put with a mark of 42-feet, 2-inches and was 20th in the discus throw with a mark of 140-feet, 8-inches. On the men's side, Chris Hart led the Retrievers with a seventh-place showing in the 3000-meter steeplechase in an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 9:02.97.
The University of New Hampshire women's outdoor track and field team finished 34th out of 47 teams with six points at the ECAC Championships. Rita Ciambra placed third in the pole vault by clearing a height of 12-feet, 7.5-inches, tying the school record. Camille Quarles placed 14th in the triple jump with a leap of 39-feet, 2.5-inches. The men's team earned a 30th place finished overall. Brice Paey placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 52-feet, 10.75-inches. Bobby Edgerton finished sixth in the 800-meter final in a time of 1:51.31. Wesley Dinnan placed eighth in the 10,000-meters in a time of 30:39.21.
The Stony Brook's outdoor track and field team had three runners place within the top-15 at the ECAC Outdoor Championships. Holly Van Dalen completed the 3,000-meter event in a time of 9:43.29, which was fast enough for fourth place. Dana Hastie also competed in the 3,000-meter event, finishing four spots behind Van Dalen in a time of 9:51.40. Also placing for the Seawolves was sophomore Laura Huet, who took 13th in the 5,000-meter event with a time of 17:24.87.
University of Vermont's Aaron Campbell finished third in the men's 100-meter in a time of 10.70, leading the Catamounts to a 34th place finish overall. On the women's side, America East Champion Corinne DiPietro placed 18th in the javelin with a mark of 124-feet, 9-inches.
The teams with qualifying athletes return to action at the NCAA Eastern Regionals in Tallahassee, Fla. hosted by Florida State University from May 30-31.
