PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania held Boston University to a season-low five goals en route to an 8-5 victory in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday afternoon at Drexel's Vidas Field. The Quakers advance to the NCAA semifinals, which will take place on Friday, May 23 at Towson's Johnny Unitas Stadium.
The Terriers (18-3) got on the board first as Lauren Morton scored the first of her two goals off a pass from McKinley Curro 5:36 into the contest.
The Quakers (16-1) evened the score just 14 seconds later as Rachel Mansion converted on a fast break off a turnover.After a Boston U. tally by Xan Weitzel, Penn scored the final three scores of the half to take a 5-2 lead into the break.
Boston U., the tournament's No. 7 seed, cut the deficit to 5-3 4:27 into the second stanza on Morton's second score. But Penn, the No. 2 seed and nation's top-ranked team, scored four straight, including a pair by Emily Spiro, that helped seal the outcome.
Sarah Waxman, the Ivy League Player of the Year, made 13 saves for the Quakers, who won 11 of 15 draw controls in the game.
Rachel Klein stopped 13 shot for the Terriers, who lost for the first time in 16 games.
