CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- America East Softball Champion Stony Brook will make its first appearance in the NCAA Division I Softball Championship when the Seawolves travel to Arizona State Friday (May 16) at 10 p.m. ET.
The Seawolves (33-21-1) earned the NCAA bid by winning three-straight games at the America East Championship by a combined score of 14-2. Stony Brook won the championship game, 4-0, over host and top seed Albany on Saturday.
Arizona State (56-5) is the Pac-10 Champion for the first time in school history. The Sun Devils are ranked No. 2 in the nation and are the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Championship. Hawaii (38-18) and Mississippi State (40-20) meet in the other first-round game in the four-team, double-elimination tournament. The winner of the regional at Tempe will play in a Super Regional the following weekend for the right to advance to the College World Series.
