Hart, Cummings, Casey, and Ciambra Take Week Two Track and Field Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--UMBC's Chris Hart and University at Albany's Laura Cummings earned weekly honors as America East Men's and Women's Track Performers of the Week, while University of New Hampshire's Pat Casey and fellow Wildcat Rita Ciambra received America East Men's and Women's Field Performers of the Week. The conference made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon for the week ending April 7.

Sophomore Hart (Lancashire, England/St. Mary's University) was victorious in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a NCAA Regional qualifying time of 9:04.62 at the prestigious William and Mary Colonial Relays last weekend. Hart outdistanced his closest competitor by almost a full second and was also part of the eighth place 4 x 1500m relay which turned in a time of 16:16.61.

Junior Cummings (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore/UNC) placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in an ECAC and NCAA East Regional qualifying time of 10:40.49 at the Duke Asics Invitational on Saturday, April 5 at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Junior Casey (South Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) placed first in the high jump with a leap of 2.04 meters April 5 at the Wildcat Invitational I at University of New Hampshire.

Sophomore Ciambra (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) picked up where she left off the indoor season at the Wildcat Invitational I on April 5, winning the pole vault by clearing a distance of 3.85 meters, which sets a new school record and qualified her for the NCAA East Regional, which will take place May 30-31 at Florida State University.

Albany
The quartet of Jean Juste, Nick Assini, Garrett Askew and Daniel Avery finished third in the 110-meter shuttle hurdle relay to lead the UAlbany track and field team on the second day of competition at the Florida Relays on Saturday, April 5 at Percy Beard Track Facility. In women’s competition, the Great Danes received a pair of ECAC-qualifying marks in the triple jump. Arina Gerasimova finished fifth with a leap of 40-feet, 6.25-inches, while Jenn Gurrant placed seventh at 39-feet, 7-inches. [Albany Story]

Binghamton

Freshman Eric Van Ingen (Marathon, N.Y.) and senior Dayna Johnson (Brentwood, N.Y.) each placed in two events, as the Binghamton track & field squads began their outdoor campaigns at the Princeton/Sam Howell Invitational. Boston U

The Boston University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed on both coasts this weekend, with athletes participating at the Florida Relays in Gainsville, Fla., as well as at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif. Senior Tahari James took first in the long jump and second in the triple jump in Florida, while seniors Marisa Ryan and Andrea Walkonen both placed in the 10000m in California. [Boston Story]

Hartford
The University of Hartford track and field teams competed at the University of Connecticut Alumni Invitational over the weekend. The Hawks saw three school records fall in just their second meet in the outdoor season. The men’s team finished in sixth place out of eight, while the women finished in eighth out of eight teams. Maine
The University of Maine men's and women's outdoor track teams competed in the non-team scoring Wildcat Invitational on Saturday. The event featured several teams from the Northeast, as well as non-affiliated runners. [Maine Story]

UMBC
Senior Ashley Fauntleroy (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) led the Retrievers with a second-place finish in the shot put as the UMBC men’s and women’s track and field teams finished competition at the William and Mary Colonial Relays on Saturday. [UMBC Story]

New Hampshire
Juniors Matt O’Connor (Rhinebeck, N.Y.), Patrick Casey (So. Yarmouth, Mass.) and David Dreyer (LeRoy, N.Y.), as well as the 4x100-meter relay team, all won events to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s outdoor track & field team at Saturday’s Wildcat Invitational I at Reggie F.
