CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- UMBC's Terry Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) has been named the America East Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the second time this season after a pair of strong performances last week, while Albany's Brain Caufield (Bay Shore, N.Y./West Islip) has been tabbed Rookie of the Week. The award winners for the week ending April 6 were announced on April 7.
Kimener, a senior midfielder, found the back of the cage three times in each of the Retrievers' games last week. He scored three fourth quarter goals in a 10-5 win over Binghamton on Saturday after the Bearcats had cut the deficit to 6-4 entering the final frame. He also had three scores in a 9-6 victory over instate-rival Towson on Tuesday. Kimener, who has 118 points for his career, moved into a tie for 18th on the program's all-time scoring list moved into a second-place deadlock for most points by a midfielder.
Caufield, a freshman attack, scored seven first-half goals against Hartford to lead the Great Danes to a conference win on Saturday and their fourth straight victory overall. The nine-point and seven goal performance was just shy of Albany's program record for points and goals in a game by a freshman. Caufield also contributed a goal and two assists in a win over crosstown-rival Siena on Wednesday.
The Great Danes, who have won four straight, will face UMBC, which has won six consecutive games, in a battle of first-place teams on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Baltimore. The winner of the game will move to 3-0 in league play take over sole possession of first place in the conference standings with just two games remaining. In other America East action on Saturday, Vermont will host Binghamton at 1 p.m., while Hartford travels to Stony Brook for a 7 p.m. contest.

Corey Small (St. Catharines, Ontario / Holy Cross) equaled a season-high with four goals, including two in each half, against crosstown-rival Siena... Small has tallied three or more goals versus nine opponents during his career ... Small has scored at least one point in 13 consecutive games... John Alpizar (Summit, N.J. / Summit) added a season-best three points (1 goal, 2 assists)... freshman attacker Brian Caufield (Bay Shore, N.Y. / West Islip) exploded for career-highs in goals (7) and points (9) at Hartford... Caufield, who did all of his scoring in the first half, fell just short of Merrick Thomson’s single-game freshman records in both categories... reserve goalkeeper Dan McKeon (Camillus, N.Y. / West Genesee) made two of his six saves with UAlbany clinging to a two-goal lead with less than four minutes remaining... Jordan Levine (Bethpage, N.Y. / Bethpage) sealed the outcome on an unassisted goal with 47 seconds left... Levine, who matched career-highs in assists (3) and points (5), ranks 18th nationally in ground balls at 4.89 per game... The Great Danes have won 28 of their last 35 regular-season game against America East opponents... UAlbany is among the nation’s leaders in scoring defense at 6.89 goals per game... Binghamton (2-4, 0-2 America East) plays its final non-conference game of the season at home against Colgate on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ...Tthe Bearcats' game against UMBC marked their fourth game against a ranked opponent this season.
Hartford (0-10, 0-2 America East) dropped a 14-11 decision against Albany in its only game last week. The Hawks scored a season-high 11 goals but couldn't pick up their first victory of the season. Freshman Rob Nosworthy (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) netted his first collegiate goal and later added two more for the hat trick. Senior Brian Tilley (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and sophomore Justin Bearse (Hyannis, Mass./Barnstable) also recorded two goals and an assist apiece... Bearse and freshman Michael Cudmore (Ashburn, Ontario/All Saints Catholic) each have a team-high 16 points on the season. Bearse leads the team with 12 goals while Cudmore has a team-high 12 assists... Hartford will next play at Stony Brook on Saturday, April 12 at 7 p.m. Last season the Hawks upset a nationally-ranked Seawolves squad by a 6-4 final.
UMBC (7-3, 2-0 America East) sophomore attackman Matt Latham (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) scored a career-best five goals and senior midfielder Terry Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) added three fourth quarter goals as the visiting UMBC Retrievers won its sixth straight game, a 10-5 win over Binghamton in the first night lacrosse game played at BU’s Sports Complex... The six-game streak matches UMBC’s streaks in each of the last two seasons... The five goal margin of victory is the Retrievers’ largest of the season... Earlier in the week, Kimener also posted three goals as the Retrievers held host Towson to a season-low six goals in a 9-6 Retriever victory... It was the second and third three-plus goal games of the season for Kimener and the eighth and ninth of his career... He scored all three goals in the fourth quarter at Binghamton after the Bearcats had cut UMBC’s lead to 6-4 after three quarters... Kimener has now amassed 118 career points, tied for 18^th on UMBC’s all-time scoring list and he has tied Scott Edmonds (’75) as the second-most productive midfielder in school history... Jamie Batley (’94) is the all-time leading scorer at midfield for UMBC with 158 points... sophomore attackman Chris Jones (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) recorded a career-best three assists on three of Latham’s goals...Latham has 13 goals in his last four outings... Retriever junior netminder Jeremy Blevins (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall) posted nine saves, while allowing the first four Bearcat goals...Earlier in the week, Blevins had a brilliant 16-save effort vs. Towson and has moved into fifth place on UMBC’s all-time saves list with 428... Senior face-off specialist Taylor Marino (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul’s) attempted all 19 draws vs. the Bearcats, winning 12, including five of six in the fourth quarter...The Retrievers were a perfect 15 of 15 on clearing attempts against Binghamton... Freshman attackman Dom Scalzo (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) posted his first multi-goal effort of his tenure with a pair of scores at Towson... The Retrievers would hold Towson scoreless for over 31 minutes as they turned a 3-2 early second quarter deficit into an 8-3 advantage with 10:49 remaining... UMBC hosts Albany on Saturday evening in a battle of 2-0 America East teams... The combatants for the last two America East titles have met seven times, with UMBC holding a 4-3 lead... Stony Brook’s (5-4, 1-1 America East) offense continues to score goals at a near record pace ... the Seawolves 13 goals against Vermont made it eight times in nine games that SBU has scored at least 12 goals ... Vermont’s nine goals was the fourth time Stony Brook has held an opponent to fewer than 10 goals ... Stony Brook’s win over Vermont kept the Seawolves record perfect against the Catamounts at 7-0 ... with a goal against Vermont, Bo Tripodi has now scored at least one goal in every game this season ... he is the only player to have done that ... he now has 107 lifetime goals at Stony Brook, just five short of the number two mark ... Vermont (3-8, 1-1 America East) earned a come-from-behind 9-8 win over Fairfield last Tuesday and dropped a 13-9 decision to Stony Brook in America East play on Saturday ... The Catamounts trailed 6-1 in the second quarter against the Stags before rallying for the win ... Vermont held Fairfield to just two goals in the final 42 minutes and 18 seconds in the game ... The Catamounts are 2-0 at home this season ... Freshman Derek Lichtfuss (Lutherville, Md./Delaware/St. Paul’s) scored seven goals and had a total of nine points on the week ... Lichtfuss notched a hat trick in the win against Fairfield and scored the game winner with 1:52 remaining ... He leads Vermont in scoring this season with 16 goals an 20 points ... Senior Shay Cunningham (Southborough, Mass./Southborough) had five goals and six points last week ... Cunningham recorded a hat trick in UVM’s victory against Fairfield ... Junior Brandon Goodwyn (Bethesda, Md./Ohio State/Landon) dished out three assists in the 9-8 win against the Stags ... He leads the team with eight assists this season ... Freshman Liam Teer (Vancouver, B.C./Lawrenceville) went 12-for-21 on face offs and had seven ground balls in the win against Fairfield ...
