Edgerton, Tolton, Miller, Fauntleroy Earn Weekly Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--University of New Hampshire's Robert Edgerton and University of Maine's Vicki Tolton earned weekly honors as America East Men's and Women's Track Performers of the Week, while Stony Brook University's Justin Miller and UMBC's Ashley Fauntleroy received America East Men's and Women's Field Performers of the Week. The conference made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon for the week ending April 14.

Senior Edgerton (Cornish, N.H./Windsor, Vt.) won the 1,500-meters at the Wildcat Invitational II on April 12. He broke the school record and qualified for the NCAA East Regional, which will take place May 30-31 at Florida State University, by finishing in three minutes, 46.62 seconds.

Junior Tolton (Smithers, British Columbia/Smithers Secondary) won the 400 meter dash at the Wildcat Invitational in an ECAC-qualifying time of 56.17, which broke the school record of 56.66 set by Gabrielle DeShong in 1997.

Senior Miller (Smithtown, NY) took first in both the shot put (14.35) and discus (40.51) at the Quinnipiac Invitational. He also took first in the shot put at the UMass Invitational with a distance of 15.08.

Senior Fauntleroy (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) recorded three top-eight finishes and three career-best marks at last weekend’s Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invite at the University of Virginia, while notching two ECAC qualifying marks and an NCAA Regional cut. Fauntleroy finished second in both the shot put and hammer throw posting an NCAA Regional qualifying-mark of 14.68m (48’2”) in the shot put and ECAC-qualifying mark of 49.15m (161’3”) in the hammer throw. The senior also broke her own school record in the discus throw, achieving an ECAC-qualifying mark of 44.70m (146’8”) to finish third overall and to break the old record of 44.50m (146’0”), which she set at the 2007 America East Championship meet.

Team Results:

Albany
Ten members of the men’s track and field team registered IC4A-qualifying marks and three members of the women’s squad recorded ECAC-qualifying performances to lead UAlbany to a first-place finish in the men’s and women’s competition at the UMass Invitational at the Track and Field Facility on Saturday, April 12. The men’s team scored 236 points to win by a commanding margin, while the women registered 223 points to place ahead of the host school. [Albany Story]

Binghamton
The Binghamton University's men's and women's sprinters, jumpers and throwers were at the Virginia Onesty Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. There was no team scoring kept at the meet.[Binghamton Story]

Boston U
The Boston University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Spec Towns Invitational this weekend at the Spec Towns Track, with senior David Proctor and graduate student Kat Warden taking first in the 800m and 1500m, respectively.[Boston Story]

Hartford
The University of Hartford men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the University of Massachusetts Spring Meet this past weekend. The women’s team finished with 59 points and fifth place out of nine teams, while the men finished in seventh out of nine teams.[Hartford Story]

Maine
The University of Maine men's and women's track teams competed in the non-team scoring Wildcat Invitational II on Saturday. The event featured several teams from the Northeast, as well as nonaffiliated runners.[Maine Story]

UMBC

Stony Brook
Sophomore Jessica Hampson (Smithtown, N.Y.) won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday at the UMass Invitational in Amherst, Mass. Hampson's time of 10:52.83 qualifies her to compete in the ECAC in May at Princeton University.
