America East Player of the Week in men's lacrosse for the second time
this season after leading the Retrievers to their seventh straight win
on Saturday. Stony Brook's Kevin Crowley (New Westminster, British
Columbia/New Westminster) has been tabbed Rookie of the Week for the

Smith, a junior attack, led the sixth-ranked Retrievers to an 14-10 win over conference foe Albany on Saturday. Smith, who leads UMBC with 23 goals on the season, found the back of the cage five times and added three assists against the Great Danes. UMBC's win streak is the program's longest since 1999.
Crowley earned his third Rookie of the Week honor by scoring three goals and dishing out three assists to lead the Seawolves to an 11-7 conference win over Hartford on Saturday. Crowley leads America East with 24 assists and ranks second with 41 points on the season.

Albany (5-6, 2-1 America East) fell to No. 9 UMBC, 14-10, in a battle for first place in the conference standings on April 12... The two programs have played for the America East championship the last two years... The Retrievers, who have won 10 in a row at home, ran off four unanswered to break an 8-8 tie in the third quarter... The Great Dames, who had their five-game win streak halted, had overcome a three-goal halftime deficit when defensive midfielder Tyler Endres (Brockport, N.Y. / Hilton Central) drew his team even with his first of the season... freshman attack Brian Caufield (Bay Shore, N.Y. / West Islip) totaled three goals and two assists... Caufield has tallied three or more points in five of his last seven starts... Nate Sullivan (Gilbert, Ariz. / Mesquite) tied a career-best with three points (2 goals, 1 assist)... Corey Small (St. Catharines, Ontario / Holy Cross) posted career-highs in goals (6) and points (7) in a 15-4 non-league win over Yale on April 8... Small had four first-half goals in leading his team to an 11-0 lead with 5:14 left in the second period... Small has surpassed 25 points for the third consecutive season... Mike Ammann (Putnam Valley, N.Y. / Putnam Valley) netted a career-high three goals, while Jordan Levine (Bethpage, N.Y. / Bethpage) added two goals and one assist... Levine moved past the 300-mark in career ground balls (303) last week... Mark Cometti (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) has scored at least one point in five of his last six outings... Brett Queener (Penn Yan, N.Y. / Penn Yan Academy) made double-figures saves for the 22nd time in a UAlbany uniform with 13 against Yale... Queener has reached the 400-career saves plateau (405)... Albany travels to Syracuse, the nation’s top-ranked team, on April 18... The Great Danes will be meeting their fifth top-10 opponent this season.
Binghamton's (3-6, 1-2 America East) game against Stony Brook on Saturday will be televised live by MSG (Madision Square Garden Network). Binghamton is making its third appearance on regional television and its first ever on MSG. The Bearcats last two games against Syracuse at the Carrier Dome, including the March 22 game earlier this season, have been produced by Time Warner Sports. The game against Stony Brook, however, marks the first Bearcats’ home game ever to be televised ... sophomore attack Andy Cook (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) has five goals and an assist in the past three games. He scored a career-high three goals against Colgate on April 8 and has a three-game goal scoring streak entering the game against Stony Brook ... Binghamton leads the America East Conference with an .828 penalty-killing percentage. The Bearcats have allowed just five man-up goals in 29 attempts. In addition, the Bearcats lead the conference with the fewest penalties per game (3.22) and fewest penalty minutes per game (2.72).
UMBC (8-3, 3-0 America East) junior attackman Ryan Smith (Fallston, Md./Fallston/CCBC-Essex) scored a career high five goals and added three assists as ninth-ranked UMBC won its seventh straight game, a 14-10 decision over rival Albany (5-6, 2-1) in a crucial America East Conference contest... The winning streak for UMBC is its longest since a school Division I-high eight straight wins in 1999... The Retrievers have already sewn up a berth in the four-team America East Tournament and a win over Hartford at home next Saturday would ensure the Retrievers of home field advantage in the tournament... The Retrievers scored six unanswered goals over a 13 minute span in the second half to snap an eight-all tie and open up a 14-8 advantage with 5:47 remaining in the game... UMBC was leading 10-6 with one second left in the third quarter when game officials saw lightning in the distance and suspended play at 9:00 p.m. for 35 minutes... Senior midfielder Terry Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and sophomore attackman Matt Latham (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) had two goals and two assists each for UMBC, while sophomore middie Kyle Wimer (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) added a goal and two helpers... The statistical battles were fairly even, except that Albany failed to clear on eight of 19 attempts... UMBC junior netminder Jeremy Blevins (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall) made 11 saves and allowed the first eight UA goals in over 57 minutes of action... UMBC now leads the overall series, 5-3, breaking a two-game Albany winning streak... The Retrievers have won ten straight at home, the nation’s second longest home winning streak behind Duke’s 17 in a row... UMBC has also won ten straight America East home games and is 21-4 all-time in league play... The eight points by Smith is the most by a Retriever this year... Kimener has 122 career points and is now UMBC’s second all-time leading midfield scorer... Saturday’s game vs. Hartford will be televised by ESPNU and WMAR-TV (ABC) and will also be UMBC’s “Senior Day” honoring seniors Kimener, goalkeeper David Coker (Annapolis, Md./Bridgton Acad.), attackman Conor Devlin (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary’s) and face-off specialist Taylor Marino (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul’s)... Marino became just the second player in school history to win over 100 draws in three separate seasons for the Retrievers and needs eight more victories to become the second player in school history to win 400 draws.
Stony Brook’s (6-4, 2-1 America East offense continues to score goals at a near record pace ... the Seawolves 11 goals against Hartford made it nine times in 10 games that SBU has scored at least 11 goals ... Hartford’s seven goals was the second consecutive and third time over the last four games that Stony Brook has held an opponent to fewer than 10 goals ... with no home America East games remaining, Stony Brook went undefeated at 2-0 at home in conference games this season ... Bo Tripodi scored the game-winning goal against Hartford ... it was his team-high third of the season ... his goal also kept his goal scoring streak alive, with at least one in each game this season ... he is the only player to have done that ... Tripodi now has 108 lifetime goals at Stony Brook, just four short of the number two mark ... with 84 points between them, Kevin Crowley and Jordan McBride are the top freshman scoring tandem in the nation in NCAA Division I ... McBride’s 34 goals are tied for 11th on the Stony Brook single-season list ... Crowley now leads the Seawolves with 24 assists, tying him for 10th all-time for assists in a season ... Stony Brook’s five wins at home this season are the most for the team since the 2004 season.
Vermont (4-9, 1-2 America East) picked up a 12-10 win at Marist last Tuesday and dropped a 6-5 decision to Binghamton in America East play on Saturday at Moulton Winder Field ... The Catamounts are 4-3 in their last seven games ... Saturday’s loss against the Bearcats was the first at home since April 14 last season in a 14-7 defeat against No. 2 Albany ... Vermont had won three straight at home ... Senior co-captain Andrew Holden (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and freshman Liam Thomas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) both scored two goals in the win against Marist on Tuesday ... Senior Shay Cunningham (Southborough, Mass./Southborough) and freshman Derek Lichtfuss (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul’s) each added a goal and an assist ... Vermont’s second half rally fell short in Saturday’s one-goal defeat against Binghamton ... The Catamounts trailed 5-1 at halftime before Lichtfuss scored a man-up goal with 3:55 remaining to cut the deficit to 6-5 ... Vermont would get no closer despite out shooting Binghamton 10-3 in the fourth quarter and 24-13 in the second half ...
