CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Albany's Corey Small (St. Catharines Ontario/Holy Cross) led Albany to an upset win over 10th-ranked Princeton last week and has been named America East Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week. Stony Brook's Jordan McBride (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster) has earned Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending March 23. Small, a junior attack, scored four goals in Albany's 10-2 upset victory over No. 10 Princeton on Saturday. Small, who leads the Great Danes with 12 goals this season, scored twice in each half and also picked up one ground ball. He has found the back of the cage three or more times on eight occasions during his career.
McBride, a freshman forward, followed up his 10-goal effort against Delaware last Saturday with six goals in a win over Lafayette on Tuesday. He also added two scores against Denver on Saturday. McBride leads America East in points (32) and goals (25) and has scored more goals through six games than any Seawolf player scored all of last season.

Albany (1-5) ended a stretch of four consecutive one-goal losses with a 10-2 upset victory over Princeton, ranked No. 11 in both the USILA and Nike/Inside Lacrosse national polls... The Great Danes limited the visitors to 10 of their 28 total shots through the opening three quarters, as the game was played in freezing temperatures and wind gusts in excess of 30 miles per hour... goalkeeper Brett Queener (Penn Yan, N.Y. / Penn Yan Academy) made 10 saves, his 20th time in double figures as a collegian... Queener is sixth on the school’s all-time saves list with 366... The Tigers, who have won six national championships, were held to their lowest goal output since 1989... Binghamton (2-2) heads to Cornell on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. contest. The game, which was originally scheduled for Feb. 25, was postponed due to snow. Hartford (0-7 lost at Siena College by a 10-4 final in its only action last week. Freshman Michael Cudmore (Ashburn, Ontario/All Saints Catholic) led the Hawks with a goal and an assist. He has recorded a point in six of seven games this season... Sophomore Justin Bearse (Hyannis, Mass./Barnstable) leads the team in scoring with nine goals and three assists for 12 points. He has recorded a point in all seven games this season... Junior Jon McMahon (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) has made six starts in goal for the Hawks and has made 73 saves... Hartford will play two games this week. The Hawks will wrap up their non-conference slate with a visit to Yale on Tuesday, March 25 before hosting Vermont in their conference opener on Saturday, March 29.
UMBC (4-3) sophomore attack Matt Latham (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) scored with 2:24 remaining in the second overtime period as the Retrievers won their second consecutive game in extra time, defeating the host Buckeyes, 12-11 in blustery and snowy conditions in Columbus, Ohio... Latham scored a career-high three goals in the game, but Retriever junior attack Ryan Smith (Fallston, Md./Fallston/CCBC-Essex) posted a season-high six-point game with three goals and three assists... The 13th-ranked Retrievers have won three straight and four of the last five games... UMBC leads the series, 5-2, but four of those victories have occurred in overtime... UMBC just came off an 8-7 triple overtime victory over sixth-ranked Maryland on March 14 and has won five straight overtime decisions dating back to last season... UMBC trailed in the game 9-6 late in the third quarter, but Latham scored on a feed by Smith with 12 seconds to play in the quarter to bring the Retrievers within two goals... That score started a 4-0 Retriever surge which culminated in a Kyle Wimer (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) goal which gave UMBC a 10-9 advantage with 3:17 remaining in regulation... But the Bucks sent the contest to overtime with 1:47 remaining... OSU outshot UMBC, 3-0 in the first overtime, but could not get the game-winner... The Buckeyes failed to clear the ball in the second overtime and Retriever sophomore attackman Chris Jones (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) fed Latham for the game-winning score... Wimer, senior midfielder Terry Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and junior midfielder Alex Hopmann (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) each scored two goals for the Retrievers... senior face off specialist Taylor Marino (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul’s) had his best game of the season, winning 18 of 27 draws and corralling 10 ground balls...The Retrievers open conference play next Saturday, March 29 when they host Stony Brook.
Stony Brook’s (3-3) win over Lafayette was its season-high third in a row ... the loss to Denver was the first at home this season for Stony Brook and was the first time in six games that the Pioneers had defeated the Seawolves ... Vermont (1-6) picked up a win in its home opener with a 9-7 victory against Bellarmine on Sunday at Moulton Winder Field ... It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams ... The Catamounts had lost their first six games of the year ? all of which were on the road ... The loss ended a six-game winning streak for Bellarmine (6-2), whose only other loss was at No. 10 North Carolina in the season opener ... Senior Shay Cunningham (Southborough, Mass./Southborough) and freshman Derek Lichtfuss (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul’s) both scored three goals in the victory ... Lichtfuss is second on the team in scoring this year with six goals and eight points ...
