BALTIMORE, Md. ? Sandy Bridgeman, the 12th-year head coach of the University of New
Hampshire women’s lacrosse team, was selected as the
U.S. Lacrosse Coach of the Week for the week ending March 16, the organization
announced Wednesday. She will be recognized for this award during
CSTV’s lacrosse broadcast on March 23 (12 p.m.).
Bridgeman guided
the Wildcats to a 2-0 record the week of March 10-16 with a 16-5 victory against
previously unbeaten Harvard
University on March 12 and a 10-7 road
win vs. 10th-ranked Vanderbilt University on March 15.
UNH jumped out to a
4-0 lead five minutes into the game vs. Harvard en route to scoring the first
nine goals of the game to build an 11-1 halftime lead against the Crimson, who
entered the game with a 3-0 record. The ?Cats dominated the game statistically
with a 37-16 shot advantage, a 22-11 edge in ground balls and a 13-8 favor in
draw controls, as well as half as many turnovers (12-24).
New Hampshire
recorded its second road win of the season against the 10th-ranked
team in the country ? UNH defeated Yale, 8-7, on March 5 ? to win its fourth
consecutive game and improve to 5-2 overall. With the score tied 2-2 just past
midway of the first half, the Wildcats scored goals nine seconds apart and the
Commodores never pulled even thereafter despite trimming the deficit to one goal
on three occasions (scores of 4-3; 5-4; 7-6).
Bridgeman is the
winningest coach in UNH women’s lacrosse history with a record of 103-94 ? she
tallied her 100th win March 5 at Yale. She is a three-time recipient
of the America East Coach of the Year award (2001, 2002, 2004) and was the IWLCA
Northeast Region Coach of the Year in 2004.
