CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Boston University junior shortstop Melissa Dubay (Auburn, Wash./Auburn Riverside) was awarded the America East Softball Player of the Week for the period ending March 16. The pitcher of the week, Albany sophomore Leah McIntosh (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair), received the second honor of the season from the conference to go along with her all-tournament recognition last week, and UMBC hurler Stephanie Weigman (Elkridge, Md./Archibishop Spalding) garnered this week's rookie award.
Dubay helped the Terriers go 5-3 in a busy week, hitting .458 while going to the plate 24 times. Three of her 11 hits were for extra bases, including two doubles and a homer. Dubay came around to cross the plate five times, while driving in four runs.
McIntosh earns the award for the second time this season. The sophomore earned all-tournament honors at the Winthrop/adidas Invitational after fanning 10 against Fairfield, and then another 10 against Ohio. Both performances were complete games, including eight innings against Ohio.
Weigman went 2-2 with a 2.47 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 22.2 innings of work last week. She struck out a career-high eight batters against Howard and pitched her second consecutive complete game. Weigman picked up two wins in relief in 6.1 scoreless innings of work later in the week at the Maryland Spring Break Classic.

UAlbany (6-3 overall record, 0-0 in America East) returned to action at the
Winthrop/adidas Invitational... The Great Danes defeated Fairfield, 5-3, before falling to UNC
Wilmington, 3-2, in their only loss of the weekend... UAlbany also posted wins
over UNC A&T, 4-3, and an eight-inning defeat of Ohio, 2-1, on Sunday... Sophomore Nicole Kothe
(Middletown,
N.Y./Minisink Valley) led the Great Danes... Kothe, who started in centerfield
for UAlbany in all four games, recorded three singles, a triple and a home run
for the Great Danes... In the weekend finale against Ohio, she recorded a single and stole two
bases en route to scoring the game-tying run in the third inning... Kothe also
recorded singles against Fairfield and UNC
Wilmington, and knocked a triple and a homer versus North Carolina A&T... Sophomore second
baseman Michelle Connors (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) recorded a 2-run walk-off
homer to win the game against Fairfield...
Connors also recorded a home run and a single versus UNC A&T and had
singles against Fairfield and Ohio... Sophomore pitcher Leah McIntosh (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair)
earned all-tournament honors after leading the Great Danes to wins over Fairfield and Ohio...
McIntosh fanned 10, while allowing five hits in a 5-3 win over Fairfield
and struck out another 10 in a 2-1 eight-inning performance against Ohio... The Great Danes
will travel to Georgia next
weekend for the GeorgiaSpring Fling... UAlbany
will play two games against the Bulldogs and three against Kent State.

one over the fence and drove in four RBI... Sophomore hurler Megan Currier (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) lowered her
season ERA following a solid week in four appearances... She struck out four
batters, gave up just four earned runs on 21 hits... Freshman April Setterlund (Torrance, Calif./South
Torrance) earned her first collegiate shutout in a 2-0 victory over Liberty... BU
will host its home opener on Wednesday, March 19 when cross-town rival comes to
BU Softball Field at 3:00 p.m.
Hartford
(5-1, 0-0) opened play at the Rebel Spring Games with wins over Dayton and Army on Sunday. The Hawks topped Dayton 3-1 to start the
day and defeated Army 10-1 in the nightcap. The Hawks have now won their last
four games... Junior Kristen Cericola (Morton, Pa./Ridley) went 3-for-6 over the two games with a pair
of RBI to lead the Hartford
offense... Pitchers Brittney Stratton (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) and
Amanda Singer (Monmouth Junction, N.J./East Brunswick) each picked up victories in the
circle. Stratton allowed her first run of the season in the win over Dayton, snapping her
scoreless innings streak at 18.2. She allowed only four hits in the game while
striking out a season-high nine batters. Singer also threw a complete game and
scattered five hits over seven innings while striking out two. Stratton
improved to 3-0 on the season while Singer is 2-1... Hartford
will play eight more games over the next week at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
Maine
(0-24, 0-0) dropped all seven of its games this past week ... Alexis Souhlaris (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton
Academy) is batting .455 in her last three games...Ashley Waters (Amesbury,
Mass./Amesbury) is leading the Black Bears in several statistical categories
including: batting average (.333), runs scored (12), slugging percentage
(.560), hits (25), RBI (8) and homeruns (5)...Of the 26 batters Jenna Balent
(Conifer, Colo./Conifer) has struck out, 15 have been looking...Balent is leading
the team in ERA, innings pitched and strikeouts...Freshman Terren Hall
(Bucksport, Maine/Bucksport) had her second homerun of the season against
Hawai’I Pacific...The Black Bears take on the Providence College Friars in a
doubleheader on Saturday, March 22, beginning at noon.
UMBC (7-10, 0-0) went 5-3 on the
week, splitting a doubleheader with Howard on March 12 and going 3-2 against a
tough field at the Maryland Spring Break Classic... The Retrievers hit five home
runs against the Bison, including four in their 14-6 five-inning victory in
game one... Sophomore Amanda Fefel (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) and junior Krista Kearns (Santa Fe Springs, Calif./Santa Fe) each slugged two round-trippers, while senior
Ashley Gray (Pasadena,
Md./Northeast/Delaware State) hit a grand slam... UMBC lost the nightcap, 2-1...
Freshman Stephanie Weigman (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) breezed through
the first six innings, allowing just two base runners on a hit and a walk, but
she gave up a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the seventh for the
tough-luck loss... The Retrievers defeated perennial NCAA Tournament team Lehigh,
3-0, before falling to Valparaiso, 8-0, on the
first day of the Maryland Tournament... Gray picked up her first victory of the season with a complete game
shutout... Fefel hit her third homer of the week... On day two, UMBC defeated St.
Peter’s, 4-2, and Niagara, 6-4... Weigman
pitched 6.1 scoreless innings to pick up both victories in relief... She allowed
just four hits while striking out eight on the day... Freshman outfielders Lauren
Brummell (Hanover, Va./Hanover), Julia Culotta (Street, Md./North
Harford/Tennessee) and Lynn Pronobis (Waldorf, Md./McDonough) combined for six
RBI, three doubles and a triple in the two games... UMBC fell to host 23rd-ranked
Maryland, 5-2, in the final game of the tournament... The Retrievers host the UMBC
Spring Classic this weekend after taking on Niagara in a single game on
Wednesday.

Vermont
(3-12, 0-0) went 1-7 on the week, earning its lone victory
in the final game of the Winthrop Tournament with a 4-2 win in eight innings ... Freshman
Laura Stagliano (Voorhees,
N.J./Eastern Regional) hit her first career home run in the top of the eighth
inning to help the Cats snap a 10-game slide and defeat Providence on Sunday
afternoon ... Senior Rachelle Eloschuk (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin) has hit safely
in nine of her last 10 games and leads the team with six multiple-hit games
this year ... With a complete game victory over Providence, senior Aimee Kern (Wrentham, Mass./King
Philip) moved into second place all-time at Vermont in complete games (65) ... Vermont
returns to action on Friday when the Cats travel to face Delaware State for a
three-game series. UVM will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1:00pm
and then play a single game on Saturday (12:00pm).
