FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Binghamton's Rory Quiller (West Point, N.Y.) became just the second national champion in America East history by winning the pole vault competition at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening.
Quiller, a three-time All-American, vaulted 18-feet, one half inch to claim the title. He is the Bearcats' 12th national champion and first since moving to Division I in 2001. He is also America East's first male national champion and second overall in any sport in the league's 29 year history. Boston University's Jennifer Lanctot won the national title in the women's mile at the 1991-92 NCAA Indoor Championship.
"Rory's legacy is now secured in America East Conference history," America East Commissioner Patrick Nero said. "His accomplishments were tremendous before this NCAA Championship, now he will always be remembered within the conference as our first male individual national champion. He becomes the standard for all the student-athletes that will follow him."
