CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Hartford's Danielle Hood (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) is the recipient of the Fans' Choice Player of the Year and the America East Player of the Game, the first two postseason awards of the 2007-08 women's basketball season.
Hood was named one of nine semifinalists for the fans' choice preliminary voting which took place at www.AmericaEast.com last week. She was then named one of three finalists with Boston University's Christine Kinneary and Vermont's Courtnay Pilypaitis for receiving one of the top three vote totals in the first round. Final voting closed Tuesday, March 11 at noon.
Boston University's Katie Meinhardt was the inaugural women's basketball Fan's Choice Player of the Year in 2007.
After each conference game, an America East Player of the Game is awarded to each team, while each of the nine institutions also name a recipient for each non-conference game. Hood earned more America East Player of the Game nods during the season than any other student-athlete to become the 2007-08 America East Player of the Game.
New Hampshire's Danielle Clark was the 2006-07 America East Player of the Game.
The All-Conference and All-Academic teams as well as the Rookie, Coach, Defensive Player and Player of the Year will be announced during the America East Women's Basketball Championship Brunch at the Basketball Hall of Fame on Thursday, March 13. The 2008 America East Championship will kick off at Hartford's Chase Arena with the first round on Thursday at 7 p.m.
