NEW ORLEANS-- Four America East student-athletes were named to the 2007 NCAA Division I USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic Team as announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association on Monday, February 25. New Hampshire's Cathy Parker (Westford, Mass./Westford), Stony Brook's Shaun Krawitz (Auckland, New Zealand/Auckland University), Dana Hastie (Wellington, New Zealand/Newlands College) and Laura Huet (Carrickmines, Ireland/Loreto College Foxrock) represented America East on the men's and women's teams.
In addition, five America East teams were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams. The award was handed out to the Binghamton, Stony Brook, New Hampshire and Vermont women's cross country teams and the Stony Brook men's cross country teams.
To be eligible to receive the team award, squads must have competed and compiled a team score at the NCAA Regional meet and must own a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.
Parker,
a senior nursing major, placed second at the America East Cross Country
Championship in October and earned All-America honors with a 28th place
finish at the NCAA National competition. Parker, who has a 3.85 grade
point average, is a member of the America East Commissioner’s Honor
Roll and has been selected to the All-Academic squad each of the nine
seasons she has participate in either cross country or indoor and
outdoor track & field. This is the second consecutive year Parker has received this honor.
Krawitz, a senior geology major, followed up a third-place finish at the America East Championship with a 16th-place time at the NCAA Regionals this year. The senior received All-Conference and America East All-Academic recognition this year, and was named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the fall semester.
Hastie, a senior theater major, crossed the finish line at the NCAA Regional in 17th place and ran the 13th-fastest time at the America East Championship in October to help Stony Brook capture its first America East Championship in any sport. Most recently, Hastie was named to the conference's Fall Honor Roll for academic excellence. The senior was the second Seawolf to cross the finish line at the NCAA National meet.
Huet, a sophomore business major, finished 14th at the NCAA Regionals and ninth at the America East Championship in October, earning All-Conference recognition. She also finished 148th at the NCAA National meet where the Stony Brook women qualified as a team for the first time ever. The Ireland native was one of six Seawolves to earn America East All-Academic status last fall. Huet was also named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the fall semester.
The individual award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both
academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a
student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point
average and have completed a minimum 24 semester hours through the 2007
fall term. Additionally, the student-athlete must finish in the top 15
or top ten percent at their respective NCAA regional meet, or receive
All-American honors.
