UMBC Clinches First-Ever Men's Basketball Regular-Season Title

With its win over New Hampshire on Saturday, UMBC (21-7, 12-2 America East) has clinched its first-ever regular-season title in men's and the top seed for the upcoming conference America East Men's Basketball Championship. The win also guarantees the Retrievers an NIT berth should they fall short of the NCAA tournament. UMBC will host the league title game on March 15 if it advances to the final.

Mitchell Beauford converted a conventional three-point play with 2:19 remaining to highlight a 17-4 Stony Brook run to close the game and help give the Seawolves their second win in three games... Beauford scored 13 points in all coming off the bench... Ricky Lucas led SBU with 14... Chris Martin added 13... Mark Socoby scored a game-high 14 for the Black Bears... Kaimondre Owes contributed 12.

Boston University 67, at St. Peter's 64
The Terriers overcame an 11-point deficit with 9:46 to play en route to the non-conference win... Corey Lowe scored a team-high 22 points and canned six three-pointers... John Holland continued his hot shooting with 18 points and also pulled down seven rebounds... Scott Brittain added 14 points and nine rebounds for Boston U., which has won seven of its last eight games.

Binghamton 66, at Manhattan 56
The Bearcats held the Jaspers to just 33 percent shooting to earn a non-conference win... Richard Forbes tied his career high with 27 points... Mike Gordon added 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc... Gordon also contributed eight rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.

Albany 60
The Great Danes led by 18 midway through the first half, but the Golden Griffins trimmed the margin to six by halftime and shot 54 percent in the second stanza to complete the comeback... Brian Lillis and Brent Wilson each scored 15 points for Albany... Wilson also grabbed nine rebounds, while Lillis pulled down five boards and dished out five assists.

The Retrievers trailed by seven points with under five minutes to go in the second half but battled back to force overtime and held off the Wildcats in the extra session in front of a RAC Arena-record 3,712 fans... With the win, UMBC clinched the America East regular-season championship, the right to host the conference title game game should they advance that far and an NIT berth if they do not make the NCAA Tournament... UMBC has won eight straight and earned its first 20-win season since the 2001-02 campaign... Ray Barbosa led UMBC with 21 points... Darryl Proctor added 14 points and seven rebounds... Tyrece Gibbs paced UNH with a game-high 22 points.

Vermont 84 at UNC Wilmington 73.
The Catamounts shot 57 percent in the second half and outscored the Seahawks 46-35... Marqus Blakely led five 'Cats in double figures with 19 points and also grabbed 19 rebounds to record his
his 10th straight double-double... Mike Trimboli added 15, while Joey Accaoui contributed 13 off the bench... Nick Vier and Kyle Cieplicki rounded out the twin-figure scorers with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
