The Albany men and New Hampshire women's indoor track teams lead after day one of the 2008 America East Indoor Track and Field Championships at Boston University's Tennis and Track Center on Friday, February 22.

On the men's side, Albany leads the way with 56 points as Binghamton follows in a close second with 54 points. In third is New Hampshire (43), fourth Stony Brook (18), fifth UMBC with 5 points and sixth is Vermont (6). Tied for seventh is Hartford and Boston with 4 points as Maine takes eighth with 2 points.
New Hampshire is the top women's team after day one with 62 points, while Boston U follows closely with 57.5 points. In third is Albany (31.5), followed by fourth place Binghamton (29), and fifth place Stony Brook (24). In sixth place is UMBC with 22 points, while Vermont claims seventh with 4 points and Maine and Hartford tie for eighth with 2 points.
In the women's 5000 meter finals, Boston's Andrea Walkonen won the event with a time of 16:39.77 as Stony Brook's Dana Hastie took second (16:43.23) and UMBC's Alex Hyland came in third (16:59.38). Walkonen and Hastie both earned NCAA Provisional times in this event. The women's pole vault was won by New Hampshire's Rita Ciambra who reached a height of 3.60 meters. In the long jump, Boston's Whitney Ford earned first place jumping 5.97 meters. UMBC's Ashley Fauntleroy won the weight throw with a distance of 16.82 meters. In the pentathlon event New Hampshire's Amy Roccio earned the most points out of five events with a total of 3293. The final event was the distance medley in which Stony Brook's team of Laura Huet, Stephanie Vos, Carolina Cortes, and Jessica Hampson won an exciting race with a finishing time of 11:52.26.
On the men's side New Hampshire's Jordan Horwitz won the 5000 meter finals with a time of 14:42.09 followed by teammate Wesley Dinnan (14:46.24). In the pole vault Binghamton's Rory Quiller won the event with a height of 5.25 meters which also earned him a NCAA Provisional cut. Albany's Kyle Nadler won the long jump with a distance of 7.16 meters, while Binghamton's Justin Halleck won the weight throw with a distance of 17.89 meters. The final event of the night was the distance medley relay which was won by Stony Brook's team of Daire Bermingham, Mubaarak Muhammad, Shamell Forbes, and Tim Hodge in a time of 10:00.54.
Day one of competition included eleven scoring events, five for the men and six for the women.
The second and final day of the Indoor Track and Field Championships is Saturday, February 23 starting at 10am.
