Pilypaitis and Jeter Tabbed Women's Hoops Player and Rookie of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Vermont sophomore guard Courtnay Pilypaitis (Ottawa, Ontario/St. Peter) notched a triple-double and a double-double in two games last week to receive her fourth America East Women's Basketball Player of the Week award this season. Stony Brook freshman Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont) was tabbed the conference's Rookie of the Week after leading the Seawolves last week. Click here for full Weekly Release in PDF.

In a 2-0 week, Pilypaitis averaged 17.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and shot 41.7 from three-point range (5-for-12) and 92.3% from the foul line (12-for-13). Pilypaitis recorded the first triple-double in Vermont women's basketball history with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in UVM's 69-66 win over first-place Hartford. It was the first triple-double in America East women's basketball since Boston U.'s Adrienne Norris pulled the trick against New Hampshire on February 4, 2004. The sophomore added a double-double performance of 17 points and 14 rebounds in a 68-48 victory at Albany. It was her fifth double-double of the year and seventh of her career.

Jeter had a team-high 15 points Wednesday against UMBC and scored 12 points against Maine on Saturday to hit double figures for the fourth straight game. At Maine, the rookie also added four rebounds, four steals and two assists. For the week, Jeter averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in a starting role. This is the second such award for the freshman this season.

Junior Colleen Kilmurray and sophomore Amanda Tewksbury scored 17 and 16 points, respectively and combined to pull down 13 boards as well... The Black Bears also continued to outrebound conference opponents, having the 35-27 advantage on the glass... Freshman Kirsten Jeter became the Seawolves' player of the game by posting 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and four steals.

For the second straight game, the Catamounts snapped the longest winning streak in the conference... Vermont denied the Great Danes their sixth straight win, while snapping the Hawk's eight game streak earlier in the week... Junior Amy Rosenkrantz and sophomore Courtnay Pilypaitis each scored 17 points for the Catamounts... Albany senior Gia Sanders came off the bench to notched five points and 11 rebounds.

The Bearcats swept the season series with the Retrievers... Sophomore Erica Carter put up a team-high 16 points to pace Binghamton on the offensive end... Binghamton shot 59.3% in the first half to open up a 42-25 lead at the intermission... Sophomore Carlee Cassidy scored 18 points, 15 in the second half, and also added seven assists.

* at Hartford 74, New Hampshire 44
Four Hawks scored in double digits, led by sophomore Diana Delva's 15 points... Delva also had a team-high seven rebounds along with freshman Jonyce Hollins... Hartford went to the line 27 times, hitting 20 of those attempts... The Wildcats were held to 20.7% shooting from the field in the first half... Sophomore Candace Williams put up a 12-point, eight-rebound performance for New Hampshire.

The Catamounts took away an eight-point, 72-64 victory over the Wildcats during the last match-up between these squads... Three Catamounts rank in the conference's top ten scorers: sophomore Courtnay Pilypaitis (16.3 ppg), junior Amy Rosenkrantz (13.5), and sophomore May Kotsopoulos (12.3)... The Wildcats' top four scorers all sit in the top 13 in America East.

* Maine at Boston University 7 p.m.
The Black Bears are looking to sweep their first conference series this season after defeating the Terriers, 82-77, on January 23... Maine owns a +5.7 rebounding margin against America East foes, and averages nearly 40 rpg in league play... The Terriers are 8-1 when outrebounding opponents on the season.

Wednesday, February 20
* Albany at UMBC 7 p.m.

The Retrievers eked out a 56-55 win last time around for these squads, but both have gone their separate ways since... The Great Danes are 5-2 since the last meeting, while UMBC owns a 2-4 record since that victory... UMBC junior Chantay Frazier has averaged 17.2 ppg over the last five games.

In a televised match-up, the Hawks broke open the first game of the series to win, 62-45... Bearcat senior Laine Kurpniece posted her first two double-doubles of the season in the last two games... Hartford sophomore Erica Beverly has notched four of her five double-doubles of the season in conference play, including against Binghamton.
