The UMBC men and Boston University women have the lead after the second night of the 2008 America East Swimming & Diving Championships at University of Maine's Aquatic Center on Friday evening.

Day 3 Program
On the men’s side, the Retrievers take a convincing lead from Boston with 327 points, while the Terriers take second with 243 points and Binghamton follows in a close third with 222 points. In fourth is Stony Brook (206) and fifth place is Maine (104).
The Boston University women (304) lead the way followed by UMBC (274), and New Hampshire (250) in third. In fourth place is Vermont (186), fifth place is Maine (156) followed closely by sixth place Binghamton (153), and seventh place Stony Brook (94).
In the women's 1-meter diving final Tess Waresmith scored a 258.55 to win the event, followed by Boston's Alex Crerar (246.30) and UMBC's Crystal Gall (238.40) in third.
On Day 2 of swimming competition UMBC's Daniele Surkovich won the 500-freestyle in a blazing time of 4:53.33 setting a new conference record and making a NCAA-B qualifying time. In the 200-IM Boston's Eve Kinsella took the event in a time of 2:04.79. UMBC's Lindsey Engler was the only female swimmer to go under 24 seconds in the 50-freestyle when she won the event in a time of 23.56.
On the men's side a close race in the 500-freestyle was won by Stony Brook's Lukasz Ochmanski as he finished in a time of 4:30.95, dropping 5.61 seconds from his prelims time. In the 200-IM, Binghamton's Brenno Varanda won the event in a time of 1:51.40, touching out UMBC's Matt Mattingly by only .23 tenths of a second. Binghamton's Philip Dzieniszewski won the 50-freestyle in a time of 21.02.
The final event of the night was the 200-freestyle relay. The women's first through fourth place finishes were determind by only .77 tenths of a second. The UMBC relay team of Daniele Surkovich, Carly Fitzpatrick, Erin Wohlers, and Lindsey Engler teamed up to win the event in a time of 1:36.18 touching out UNH's relay by only .28 tenths of a second. The men's 200-freestyle relay was captured by Stony Brook's Michael MacDonald, Omer Ozcan, Eric Gaffey, and Alexander Kissel in a time of 1:23.94 beating UMBC's relay by only .32 tenths of a second.
Day three of the four-day event continues on Saturday with three sessions of events. The first session of the day gets underway at 10 a.m. with the swimming prelims, at 1:45pm the men will dive the 3-meter prelims and finals, at 6p.m. the swimmers will return for swimming finals of the 400-IM, 100-butterfly, 200-freestyle, 100-breaststroke, 100-backstroke, and 400-medley relay.
