The Retrievers, who finished 11-6 last season, received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament and upset seventh-ranked Maryland in the opening round. Terry Kimener, an honorable mention USILA All-American in 2007, is UMBC's top returning scorer. He finished sixth in America East with 2.24 points per game last season after tallying 38 points on 18 goals and 20 assists.

UMBC opens its schedule on February 16 when it takes on Delaware as part of "Face of for a Cause", an event that benefits the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing unique, direct programs and services to meet the specialized needs of severely injured service men and women.
