Women's Basketball: Vermont Plays At State Farm Classic To Headline Monday's Action

Every gameday throughout the 2008-09 season, America East will provide a women's basketball update that features notes on that day's matchups as well as recaps of the previous day's action.

Monday, December 29
Maine vs. Drexel (at Philadelphia, Pa.)    4 p.m.

The Black Bears play the Dragons in the second day of Saint Joseph's Hawk Classic... Freshman forward Samantha Baranowski leads the team in points (9.7 ppg) and is third in the conference with .466 field goal percentage.

New Hampshire vs. Morehead State (at Louisville, Ky.)    4:30 p.m.

The Wildcats are in the second day of the three-day Louisville Tournament... Junior Candace Williams has recorded three double-doubles in a row and is tied for first in America East with four double-doubles this season. Williams is also tied for the league lead in rebounding (8.8 rpg).

UMBC vs. Rider (at Charlottesville, Va.)    4:30 p.m.
UMBC and Rider play in the consolation game of Virginia's Marriott Cavalier Classic... The game will be the last tune-up for the Retrievers before the conference slate gets underway.

Albany vs. Montana State (at Edinburg, Tex.)    6 p.m.

The Great Danes play the Bobcats in the consolation game of the Battle of the Border Tournament hosted by UTPA... The Great Danes are second in the conference allowing 59.7 ppg and is first in rebounding defense (35.3 rpg).

Stony Brook vs. San Jose State (at Los Angeles, Calif.)    7 p.m.

The Seawolves are facing their final non-conference opponent of the season... Sophomore Kirsten Jeter is second in America East with 2.0 steals per game and is averaging 8.1 ppg... Classmate Misha Horsey leads the team with 8.8 ppg.

Vermont at #18/20 Florida    7:30 p.m.

The Catamounts begin the State Farm Classic in Gainesville and will play their first back-to-back ranked opponents, after Louisville last week, for the first time in program history.

Central Michigan 72, New Hampshire 62 (Louisville, Ky.)    

Racheal Fowler put up a season-high 21 points to lead the Wildcats in the scoring column... Junior Candace Williams posted her third straight double-double, and fourth of the season, with 14 points and 13 boards. She also recorded 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals for a solid effort.

Louisiana Tech 83, UMBC 62 (Charlottesville, Va.)  
 
The Retrievers attempted a season-high 74 field goals, hitting 32.4% of them... Freshman Erin Brown scored a team-high 15 points, while junior Carlee Cassidy netted 14... Sophomore Meghan Colabella collected 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals.

at Saint Joseph's 74, Maine 46

Junior Brittany Boser scored a team-high 13 points against the Hawks, while rookie Samantha Baranowski also collected double-figure points with 10... Boser also recorded 6 rebounds, 3 steals, a block and an assist.

at Texas-Pan American 54, Albany 49  
 
The Great Danes only allowed 14 first-half points, but couldn't cool-down a hot-shooting UTPA team in the second half... Albany shot 47.6% to UTPA's 62.5% after the intermission... Sophomore Janea Aiken scored a team-high 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field and 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Delaware 70, Stony Brook 43 (Los Angeles, Calif.)  
 
Sophomore Kirsten Jeter was the only Seawolf with 10+ points, finishing with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals... Sophomore Misha Horsey handed out five of Stony Brook's 12 assists and also recorded six points on three two-pointers.
