Men's Basketball: Three Teams Kicks Off Second Semester Action Saturday

Every gameday throughout the 2008-09 season, America East will provide a men's basketball update that features notes on that day's matchups as well as recaps of the previous day's action.

 

Upcoming Action

Saturday, December 20
Manhattan at Binghamton, 2 p.m.
The Bearcats face the Jaspers in their first game in 12 days... The contest is a return date from last year's BracketBusters pool... America East is 3-0 in return contests so far this season with Albany, Boston U. and Vermont all earning victories... Binghamton earned a 66-56 victory in last year's meeting... D.J. Rivera leads America East in scoring (20.3 ppg), ranks sixth in rebounding (6.6 rpg) and fifth in steals (1.86 spg).

Albany at Sacred Heart, 2:30 p.m.
The Great Danes begin a four-game road trip in Fairlfield, Conn. against the Pioneers in a game originally scheduled for Friday, but pushed back due to the snow storm that hit the East Coast... Sacred Heart leads the all-time series 8-5... Brian Connelly tied a team-high with 12 points in Albany's 75-57 win over the Pioneers last season... For the second straight season, Albany is one of the nation's best rebounding teams (+9.3).

American at UMBC, 7 p.m. (MASN)
The Retrievers and Eagles meet in a battle of defending conference champions on MASN... Jay Greene has not committed a turnover in his last two games, while dishing out 10 assists and playing 77 minutes... He again ranks among the nation's best with a 2.96 assist-to-turnover ratio and is tied with North Carolina's Ty Lawson for eighth with 6.9 assists per game.

Sunday, December 21
Vermont at Quinnipiac, 12 p.m. (NESN)
The Catamounts begin a four-game stretch away from Patrick Gym... Vermont is averaging 76.5 points this season, its best offensive output since the Cats scored 79.1 points per game during the 1993-94 campaign... Vermont is the third America East opponent to face Quinnipiac... The Bobcats fell to Binghamton and defeated Hartford and Maine.

Delaware at Boston University, 12 p.m. (CN8)
The Terriers look for their seventh straight win at Case Gym dating back to last season... Corey Lowe (19.3 ppg) and John Holland (17.1 ppg) are top scoring tandem in America East and rank second and fourth, respectively.

Harvard at Maine, 1 p.m.
The Black Bears host the Crimson in their first action in 11 days... Maine ranks third in America East in scoring defense (64.3 ppg), field goal percentage defense (.404) and is second in steals (8.7 spg) after ranking 8th ,5th and 5th in those respective categories last season.

at #2 Connecticut 91, Stony Brook 57 (MyTV9/SNY)

The Huskies shot a blistering 63 percent from the field and outrebounded the Seawolves by 24 en route to the win... Stony Brook freshman Danny Carter put up career-highs of 20 points and six rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench... Brian Dougher added 10 points.

Sunday, December 14
at Vermont 89, UNC Wilmington 68

The Catamounts shot 56 percent from the field and had four players in double figures... Nick Vier and Colin McIntosh each poured in 20 points... Mike Trimboli had 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists... Garvey Young had 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting off the bench.
 
Hartford 59, at Sacred Heart 55

Andres Torres scored a career-high 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting in place of the injured Joe Zeglinski... Morgan Sabia added 14, while David Bookman contributed a season-high 10 points.

Saturday, December 13
at Albany 74, Canisius 46 (TW3)

The Great Danes held the Golden Griffins to 30.9 percent shooting and outrebounded their opponent 56-31 to snap a two-game losing skid... Tim Ambrose paced four in double figures with a team-high 15 points... Will Harris and Anthony Raffa each contributed 14 points... Mike Johnson poured in a career-high 13.

at Long Island University 76, New Hampshire 72
Kyle Johnson scored a game-high 25 points and sunk two free throws with 18 seconds remaining to seal the outcome for the Black Birds... Tyrece Gibbs scored 15 and became th3 26nd Wildcat to score 1,000 career points... Alvin Abreu tallied 19 points, five rebounds and five assists.

at #12/13 Notre Dame 74, Boston University 67
The Terriers led with just 3:25 remaining, but the Fighting Irish scored 10 of the game's final 11 points to hold on for the win... Corey Lowe scored a team-high 19 points, including the 1,000th of his career... John Holland tallied 12 of his 15 in the first half.

at #3 Pittsburgh 91, UMBC 56 (MASN)
The third-ranked Panthers improved to 10-0 by shooting 55 percent from the field hitting 14 three-pointers... Darryl Proctor led UMBC with 13 points... Chauncey Gilliam added 11 and Matt Spadafora contributed 10.Proctor recorded his 32nd career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds... Justin Fry poured in a career-high 16... Jay Greene had 12 of his 14 in the second half.
