Women's Basketball: Hartford Plays For GW Classic Title; Six Other Teams In Action As Well

Every gameday throughout the 2008-09 season, America East will provide a women's basketball update that features notes on that day's matchups as well as recaps of the previous day's action.

Saturday, November 29
NJIT at Maine (Dead River Company Classic)    1 p.m.

The Black Bears host NJIT in the consolation game of their own Dead River Company Classic... Rookie Samantha Baranowski leads Maine in scoring this season with 12.0 ppg.

New Hampshire vs. Yale (Long Island Classic)    2 p.m.
The Wildcats and Bulldodgs meet in the consolation game of the Long Island Classic... New Hampshire, led by junior Candace Williams, is still in the hunt for its first win of the season.

VCU at Albany    2 p.m.
The Great Danes return home for just their second game of the season at SEFCU Arena... These two teams are meeting for the second time ever. VCU took home last year's match-up, 67-55, in Richmond.

Boston University at #20/21 Ohio State (Buckeye Classic)    2 p.m.

The Terriers become the second America East team to take on the Buckeyes over a five-day span... Boston U. could face either Central Michigan or Dayton in the second round of the Buckeye Classic.

UMBC vs. Western Michigan (Iona Basketball Tournament)    2:30 p.m.
Junior Carlee Cassidy, who has opened the season with four-straight 20-point performances, leads the conference in scoring... UMBC plays UMES in the second round.

Hartford at George Washington (George Washington Tournament)    5:30 p.m.

The Hawks lead the conference in field goal percentage, allowing opponents to shoot just .362... Hartford takes on the hosts for the tourney title.

Canisius at Binghamton    6 p.m.

Junior guard Muffy Sadler set a career high of 18 points earlier this season, and matched it last time out...Bearcats are hoping to get back up to .500 on the season.

at Long Island 74, New Hampshire 60 (Long Island Classic)    

Junior Candace Williams scored a team-high 18 points and collected 10 rebounds... Freshman Abigail LaRosa and junior Amy Simpson also finished in double-figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

at St. John's 61, Stony Brook 49

Juniors Kairsten Nunn and Misha Horsey each netted a team-high 11 points for the Seawolves... Sophomore Kirsten Jeter led Stony Brook with eight rebounds.

Hartford 46, Liberty 39 (George Washington Tournament) 
   
The Hawks forced 27 turnovers and collected a season-high 18 steals... Junior Erica Beverly recorded a double-double of 10 points and 11 boards on four-of-nine shooting from the field.

Vermont 69, at Manhattan 50

Senior Amy Rosenkrantz posted 17 points and junior Courtnay Pilypaitis  brought down 13 rebounds, both game-highs... Junior May Kotsopoulos chipped in 16 points, three assists and four steals... The Catamounts remain unbeaten against the Jaspers.

Brown 65, at Maine 52 (Dead River Company Classic) 
   
The Black Bears were led by freshmen Samantha Baranowski and Samantha Wheeler with 15 and 12 points, respectively... Kristin Baker tied a game high with six assists.

Wednesday, November 26
at Vermont 73, Providence 67 (ot)

After both teams combined to score 34 points in the first half, the Catamounts and Friars ended regulation tied at 61 apiece... Junior guard May Kotsopoulos put up a game-high 25 points, while classmate Courtnay Pilypaitis notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

at Colgate 48, Albany 46
Senior forward Tiffanie Johnson was the only Great Dane to finish in double digits, scoring 25 points... Albany shot 41% in the first half, but fizzled to shoot below 20% in the second frame.
