CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- UMBC’s Justin Bronson (Oshawa, Ontario, Canada/Msgr. Paul Dwyer) and Boston University’s Eve Kinsella (Freehold, N.J./The Peddie School) earned this week’s America East male and female Swimmer of the Week accolades after breaking their respective school’s records. With each diver capturing a title at the Terrier Invitational, Boston University’s Andre Watson (Hempstead, N.Y./Holy Trinity) and Tess Waresmith (Dover, Mass./Dover Sherborn) hang on to their reign as male and female Diver of the Week.
Bronson, a senior, earned a total of six gold medals at the George Mason Patriot Invitational while setting a Patriot Invite record in the 100 fly (49.51) and a school record in the 500 free (4:26.06). Bronson also touched first in the 100 (45.47) and 200 free (1:40.26), and was part of the winning 400 and 800 free relay teams. With Bronson’s key wins, the Retriever men won the invitational for the third year in a row. This is Bronson’s second Performer of the Week accolade this season.
In addition to winning the 200 IM (2:04.37), Kinsella, broke multiple records in the 200 free (1:49.67) and as a member of the 200-free, 400-free, 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams that set Boston University marks. The senior went on to place second in the 100 free and catapulted the Terriers to a first-place finish out of nine teams at the annual Terrier Invitational.
Watson earned a first place finish in the 1M diving event at the Terrier Invitational this weekend, posting an impressive score of 309.83, while placing second on the 3M boards (332.15). The senior remains undefeated on the 1M diving board this season, and has been the America East male Diver of the Week every week for 2008-09.
Despite suffering her first loss of the year in the 3M diving event with a second-place finish (284.45), Waresmith continued to excel on the 1M board, finishing in first place and posting a 301.85 score. Waresmith has been America East female Diver of the Week 14 consecutive weeks dating back to the 2007-08 season.
Binghamton- The Bearcats competed at the Bucknell Invitational this weekend earning second out of five teams for the men and fifth out of six opponents for the women. The men were highlighted by the performance of senior Brenno Varanda who placed first in both the 200- (1:52.33) and 400-IM (4:06.16). Sophomore Amanda Ciccone led the women’s squad with four top 10 finishes including fifth in the 200 IM (2:09.23) and 100 fly (58.20). The Binghamton divers had a strong showing with senior Ryan Graham earning first in the men’s 3M event (305.75) and senior Kristin Maney earning gold in the women’s 1M (271.00).

Boston U.- Boston hosted its annual Terrier Invitational this past weekend and broke 12 school records between the men and women, five of which were individual marks. In addition to the record breaking women’s 200- and 400-medley relays and 200- and 400-free relays, Brigette O’Shaughnessy (1650 free), Emily Munday (100 butterfly) and senior Eve Kinsella (200 free) all earned spots on the Boston University record board. For the men, following the setting of the Terrier’s 200-free relay, Matt Rickett and Bryon Kallert reset the 100 fly and 200 backstroke marks, respectively. The women earned first out of nine teams while the men fell just short of first, ending with a second-place overall finish out of six teams.

Maine- The Black Bears competed in the annual Terrier Invitational this weekend, finishing fifth among six teams for the men, and seventh out of nine for the women. Senior captain Colleen Miller led the women, touching fifth in the 1650 freestyle (17:35.70). The men’s lead swimmer, Andrew Mackeil, earned a ninth place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:01.55). The Black Bears will travel to Rhode Island on Friday for the Rhode Island Invitational.
Maine's Story
UMBC- The Retrievers swept the George Mason Patriot Invitational this weekend with the men winning their third straight title and beating out second place UNC Wilmington by nearly 500 points. Senior Justin Bronson earned six golds during the weekend including the 100 free, the 200 free, the 100 fly, and a UMBC-record time of 4:26.06 in the 500 free. On the women’s side, junior Tereza Kaplanova won the 200 breaststroke in a season-best time of 2:20.10.

New Hampshire- The Wildcats earned fifth place at the Terrier Invitational this weekend, picking up four first-place finishes with Jessie Ellisalcaide leading the way with two golds. Ellisalcaide touched first in the 100-free with a time of 50.90 and followed it up with a first place time of 23.69 in the 50-free.

Stony Brook- After a week of rest, the Seawolves will return to action on Tuesday, December 2, when they take on Iona and St Francis on the road.
Vermont- The Catamounts did not compete this week, but will return to action on Saturday, December 6, when they host America East rival New Hampshire.
