CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- University of Vermont junior guard Courtnay Pilypaitis (Ottawa, Ontario/St. Peter) and University of New Hampshire rookie guard Kelsey Hogan (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) were tabbed the first weekly award winners of the 2008-09 America East women's basketball season. Pilypaitis reached a major milestone while leading the Catamounts to a season-opening win, and Hogan paced the Wildcats in her collegiate debut.
Pilypaitis, the reigning America East Player of the Year, scored a team-high 26 points, including her 1,000th career point, to lead Vermont to an 83-69 season-opening win over UMass. Pilypaitis is the 17th Catamount to reach the 1,000-point milestone and the seventh player to reach the mark prior to their senior year. She scored her 1,000th career point in her 65th career game, and is the fourth fastest to the mark in the program's history. Pilypaitis also recorded her 11th career double-double with 10 boards to go along with four assists, four steals and 8-for-18 field goal shooting. She also hit three three-point field goals and all seven of her free-throw shots.
Hogan, who was named the America East Player of the Game Friday night, delivered a game-high 20 points on seven for 14 shooting from the floor in her collegiate debut against Bryant. During 39 minutes of action, the guard totaled eight boards, all on the defensive end, and dished out a game-high four assists.

The Great Danes face their fourth-straight 2008 NCAA Tournament participant dating back to Hartford in the America East Championship last season... Sophomore Janea Aiken, an all-rookie selection last year, is averaging 12.5 ppg through two games this season.
