Women's Basketball: Delva Leads Hartford To Season-Opening Win

Every gameday throughout the 2008-09 season, America East will provide a women's basketball update that features notes on that day's matchups as well as recaps of the previous day's action.

Upcoming Action

Sunday, November 16
Stony Brook at Michigan State    12 p.m.
The Spartans are the first of back-to-back Big 10 opponents the Seawolves will face... After opening the season at Prtichard Gym, Stony Brook embarks on a five-game road trip beginning in East Lansing.

Maine at #8 Duke    12 p.m.
Former Maine coach Joanne McCallie-Palombo will be on the other bench for this game, now the mentor for the Duke Blue Devils... This marks the second year in a row that Maine has opened the season with an ACC opponent (Clemson in 2007).

Albany at Marist (Time Warner Cable 6)    4 p.m.

The Great Danes are in search of their first win of the season after dropping Friday's contest in California.... The Red Foxes won last year's match-up, 75-71... Sophomore Janea Aiken scored 14 of Albany's 39 points in the season opener.

at Hartford 73, Dartmouth 40

The Hawks forced 19 first-half turnovers, and limited Dartmouth to just 14 first-half points... Junior Diana Delva led Hartford with 15 points and eight rebounds, both game-highs... Eleven different Hawks recorded a point or more in the affair.

at George Washington 75, UMBC 56
Junior Carlee Cassidy, a preseason all-conference pick, scored a career-high 31 points and drained six three-pointers... The Retrievers went on a 21-3 run early in the first half to take leads of 18-8 and 24-9, but found themselves down three at the intermission.

Friday, November 14
at #9 California 63, Albany 39

Sophomore Janea Aiken led the Great Danes with a team-high 14 points, while senior Tiffanie Johnson had an overall solid effort with 7 points, 7 rebounds, and two steals.

at St. Bonaventure 66, Binghamton 51
The Bearcars fell to the Bonnies for the third time over two seasons to drop to 0-1 on the season.... Freshman Viive Rebane made her first collegiate start and recorded 10 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Boston U. 50, at Rhode Island 45

Senior Jesyka Burks-Wiley, a preseason all-conference selection, led the way with game-highs of 16 points and nine boards... The Terriers showed balance early on the season, recording 11 assists on 16 field goals.

Quinnipiac 59, at Stony Brook 45
Each team surrendered 27 turnovers in their season openers... Sophomore Kairsten Nunn came off the bench to score a team-high 10 points on 3-of-6 field goal shooting and 4-for-4 free-throw accuracy.

at Vermont 83, Massachusetts 69

Junior Courtnay Pilypaitis, the reigning America East Player of the Year, recorded 26 points, including her 1,000th career point, while senior Amy Rosenkrantz also surpassed the 20-point mark with 24 for the game.

Bryant 69, at New Hampshire 66
In her Wildcat debut, rookie Kelsey Hogan netted 20 points, and recorded eight rebounds and four assists.... New Hampshire led 37-28 at the half, but yielded 41 points to visiting Bryant in the second half.
