CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Stony Brook University’s Ian Francis (Highlands Ranch Colo.) and University of New Hampshire’s Jessie Ellisalcaide (Harpswell, Maine/Maine) swam their teams to victory this weekend, earning America East men and women’s Swimmer of the Week honors. From Boston University, Andre Watson (Hempstead N.Y./Holy Trinity) and Tess Waresmith (Dover, Mass./Dover Sherborn) swept the 1M and 3M diving events, extending their season-long streak as America East male and female Divers of the Week.
Francis, a freshman, won four separate events in Stony Brook victory against Maine, and took second in two against Fordham. Against the Black Bears, Francis won the 200 yard IM (2:02.87), the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke (1:01.29 and 2:13.14, respectively) and was a leg in the victorious 100 yard medley relay.
Ellisalcaide won three individual events and one relay en route to a Wildcat victory over Central Connecticut University. The graduate student touched first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.19, ranking first in America East in that event. Ellisalcaide went on to win the 100 free (53.48), the 100 butterfly (59.20) and was the lead swimmer for the first place 200 free relay team.
Watson continued to tally impressive marks in the Terriers meet against Colgate, winning the 1M (319.65) and 3M (362.78) diving events. Watson beat his closest competitor on the 3M by over 100 points.
Waresmith’s undefeated season continued this weekend with a sweep of the 1M and 3M diving events (281.85 and 288.15, respectively). Waresmith led a Boston University sweep of the 1M, outscoring the field by over 60 points.
Binghamton- The Bearcats suffered a loss at the hands of regional foe UMass, with the men falling, 138-162, and the women, 105-195. The men’s team started strong, setting a pool record with their winning 200 medley relay time of 1:34.31. Senior Andrew Palumbo was the individual standout for the men, winning the 100 (58.86) and 200 breaststroke (2:09.95). Sophomore Danielle Gallo led the women’s team, winning the 100 and 200 breaststroke, 1:09.62 and 2:30.92, respectively.
Boston- The Terriers traveled to Colgate to take on the Raiders this weekend, with the men earning a 185-108 win, while the women suffered their first loss of the season, 108-190. Freshman Kristen Connors earned the only victory for the women, earning first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.52. Tess Waresmith, a senior, swept the 1M (281.85) and 3M (288.15) diving events, remaining undefeated this season. Kyle Ernst, a sophomore, set the tone for the Terrier men, winning the 100 and 200 breaststroke with times of 59.77 and 2:12.61, respectively. Senior Andre Watson swept the diving events, scoring a 319.65 on the 1M boards, and a 362.78 on the 3M.
Maine- The Black Bears suffered a loss at the hands of America East rivals Stony Brook, with the women edged out, 149-151, and the men, 118-174. The women were highlighted by junior Kerstin Fenton’s first-place finish in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly with times of 1:00.19 and 2:12.70, respectively. Samantha Graham, a junior, swept the 1M (221.32) and 3M (214.27) diving events, earning vital points for Maine. Andrew Mackeil, a freshman, won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 52.38, placed third in the 100 yard backstroke and had a leg in the second place 200 yard medley relay team.
UMBC- The Retrievers did not compete this week, but will return to action on Saturday in a double-dual meet with Towson and host Maryland.
UNH- The Wildcats earned their fourth win of the season against Central Connecticut University this weekend by a score of, 171-128. Jessie Ellisalcaide, a grad student at New Hampshire, led the team, touching first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.19), the 100-yard free (53.48) and the 100-yard butterfly (59.20). Ellisalcaide also swam the first leg of the winning 200 free relay team which won by more than five seconds.
Stony Brook- The Seawolves traveled to the America East rival Black Bears this past weekend, narrowly edging out the women, 151-149, and topping the men 174-118. Freshman Darcy Heuser continued a dominant rookie season, winning the 200 free (1:52.76), the 1,000 free (10:31.90) and the 500 free (5:04.55), breaking her own school record. For the men, Ian Francis, a freshman, won the 100- (1:01.29) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.14), the 200 IM (2:02.87) and swam a leg of the victorious 200-yard medley relay team. The dual meet marked the first America East victory of the season.
Vermont- The Catamounts earned a victory on the road against Siena, topping the Saints, 145-98. Six separate Catamounts won individual events, and Vermont earned first in the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays. Sophomore Kate Weaver won the 200 freestyle and was a leg in both first-place relay teams. Vermont will open their home schedule when they host America East rival Maine on Saturday.
