CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Nine America East soccer players from six
separate schools have been named to the ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-District Soccer Team, as announced by the College
Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday, October 30.
Connor Tobin, a senior defender for the University
of Vermont, who averages a 3.74 GPA
in Mechanical Engineering, was chosen to the District I Men’s Soccer First Team. Tobin, who earned Second Team All-District
distinction last year, was a member of the 2007 America East All-Conference
First-Team and was named the 2007 America East Men’s Soccer
Scholar-Athlete.
Senior defender Dan Schultz, an Economics major at Boston
University, has maintained a 3.77
GPA while playing in every game for the Terriers since joining the team as a freshman. The Terrier has helped shut out five teams
this year including then-No. 3 UConn.
Schultz earned CoSIDA All-District Second Team honors as a sophomore as
well as NSCAA second team East Region Academic accolades in his junior year.
Tobin’s teammate Jordan Casilneck, also a senior defender,
was recognized as a member of the All-District Second Team with a 3.51 GPA in
Community Entrepreneurship. The
Catamount ranks second in the NCAA in assists per game and leads Vermont
in scoring this season.
Mikael McNamara, a senior midfielder at Albany,
is a two-year starter with a 3.51 GPA as a Chemistry major, and was named to the All-District Second Team. McNamara has scored two goals this season and
assisted a game-winner, helping set the pace for the Great Danes to break the
school record for most wins as a Division I program.
Kacey Busque, a senior midfielder for the Hartford
women, received All-District First Team accolades for the second consecutive
year. A Health Sciences major, Busque
maintains a 3.88 GPA while leading the America East Conference with seven
assists this season. Named to the
America East First Team All-Conference this year, Busque was also a member of
the All-Rookie team in 2005.
Boston University’s
Emily Pallotta, a junior midfielder majoring in Business Administration and
Management, maintains a 3.75 GPA while starting in 59-of-60 games of her career. Pallotta is tied for points (10) and goals
(4) among the Terriers and was named to the America East All-Conference First
Team in 2007, and Second Team in 2008.
For the second consecutive year, Boston
University midfielder Marisha
Schumacher-Hodge has garnered All-District Second Team honors. The International Relations major holds a
3.48 GPA and has been named the America East Midfielder of the Year this year,
an award she also won 2006. The Terrier
was voted 2008 America East Fans’ Choice Player of the Year, as well as First
Team All-Conference in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
Anjelica Hodgson, a junior defender at Maine,
holds an impressive 3.74 GPA as a Biochemistry major and has garnered Third
Team All-District recognition as a two-time Maine Scholar-Athlete Award winner. Hodgson is an integral part of a defense that
has only allowed three goals during conference play this season.
New Hampshire’s
senior forward Sara Hourihan was recognized as a part of this year’s Third Team
All-District and is an Exercise Science major with a 3.66 cumulative GPA. Hourihan is tied for the lead in America East
for points (16) and is second in goals (7), and was the recipient of the UNH
Women’s Soccer Student Athlete Award in 2007.
The Catamount was named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll from 2005-2007
and was the America East Rookie of the Year in 2005.
To be nominated for the distinction, a student athlete must
excel on the field as a starter or important reserve, and in the classroom by
maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.30. Student Athletes who receive first team recognition will be
named to the national ballot.
